Have bought lots of driver recently and it made me think about the drivers I did own back in the day. Nothing seems to come close to the older models. Can't get anywhere near where I use to play shots from. Could be age but I'm only 41. So the drivers I owned and loved in the 80s and on were. Petron impala. Taylormade m1,taylormade Pittsburgh persimmon and the Callaway warbird.Hit all these probably better than I hit my current gamer and am tempted to go back to a callaway warbirds with a steel shaft. Also have persimmon woods but can't remember what. So what drivers did you love and regret getting rid of

Various persimmon junior clubs
Impala Petron
Plain Titleist 1 Wood
Taylor Made Burner Driver
Callaway Big Bertha War Bird (still own this)

Clubs I would have liked to own:

Wilson Whale & Killer Whale with fire stick shafts
My uncles Dunlop Persimmon Driver he used to call Big Bertha long before Callaway brought out their version.

Never hear the Petron Impala called a classic!

I had a set of Petron woods way back in the mid 80s. Passed them on to my young brother-in-law who kept his clubs in the garage. After a break in, all he had was his Petron Driver, 3w & 5W. They took his irons and putter but left him the woods

That reminds me of when my car was stolen , when i got it back they had stripped it of everything of value.

The only thing they left was a CD of my then band, they must have listened to it and then left it , what a insult.

I've still got all but 2 of mine inc parbuster ping eye, Pittsburgh persimmon, bubbles and loads of burners

Occasional outings to the range only reinforce how lucky we are today!

Cant say i regret getting rid of, or to put nicer , trade up from, but i used the Ping G5 for years ,

My RBZ Stage 2 is lovely but the G5 IMO was one of the best ever ,

I miss my old Cobra SZ 440 , the swines made it illegal to use in RnA comps.

You can still get the .830 ones - as opposed to the Hi-Cor ones. My 7.5* 414 Tour one is rather outdated now!

I was out wit a guy some time ago who was still using his one, w NV 65S, even though the head was actually cracked! He hit it superbly!

XR03 was the longest I had in those days (also non-conforming), though I hit a 650cc Integra (w Pink Harrison - Striper(?) ) an obscene distance - then the set size limit!

'Classics' were:
Wilson Killer Whale - Graphite face and yep, w Firestick
TM 360 Ti
TM 501TP
TM Superquad
Callaway FT3

'Modern Classics'

Adams 9015D
Adams 9064LS

Titleist Persimmon tour 3 wood- steel shaft. still have it, nothing sits as well as this does (sorry OP its not a driver)

Titleist 975J 8.5* I got on pretty well with.

And a Cobra Driver you could hit off the deck it sat so low, high kick point as well so drilled through the wind aided by my young flexible muscles:whistle:

Those were the days....my friend
I thought they'd......

I cant remember many of my earlier clubs, except a set of Tanaka irons and a Howson Hippo driver, which had a head the same size as Sam Allardyce's.

2 from my younger days (post persimmon), that I absolutely loved were the original Lynx Boom Boom and the Mizuno T-Zoid Might Big (huge then but tiny by todays standards). Both were monstrously long

I still have a Howson Hippo driver and 5 wood. In the cupboard. They have never been used. Had the driver out the other day. Surprising just how short the shaft is compared to today's offerings.

My Mother in Law loves her Cally Steelhead 3

Occasionally she'll flirt with a newer model but always goes back to it

Makes a lovely sound too

Does it have a green shaft and a silver head?

What is the CC on it?
