Thinking of trying a mini driver in the bag. I dont suffer particularly with length more with accuracy (as my Fairway Stats would attest)

My 3 wood is by far the longest serving club in my bag (Mizuno F60 from around 2008) but rather than seek to replace it was thinking of trying a "mini driver"

Has anyone tried these, stuck one in the bag?

Can you hit them off the deck or is it more of an "off the tee" club

Thanks for the input

Everything will depend on model on spec. Some will suit fairway more some will be more driver alternatives.

I have a SLDR 16 degree which is my primary tee club and is fine from the fairway. Overall it's solid and quite forgiving (way more forgiving than my SLDR driver!)

If you are planning to retain the 3 wood in the bag you would probably be looking at an Aeroburner 14 or 12 and the latter will be fine from the fairway for a good golfer (everything is)

I still have the 14 degree sldr mini in the bag and love it. I use it as a normal 3 wood though as it sits nicely behind my driver and I can hit it fairly well of the deck.

I have the 12* Aeroburner, bought because my driver was a slice machine. Lot easier to control but about 20 yards longer than my 3 wood. Not tried it off the deck on a course but goes well on the range

I've actually owned both.

I bought the Aero mini burner first and just couldn't get on with it at all, I think that the shaft was far too light for me and I just kept slicing and/or blocking it right - in truth I didn't hit a single good shot on the course with it although it was better at the range with their balls.

Luckily American Golf did a money back guarantee that if you couldn't get on with it they'd give a refund, also lucky that they had a 14* stiff shafted Callaway Mini driver newly in when I went back. For me they are chalk and cheese and the Callaway is firmly in the bag. It's a great club and I mainly use it where I need to hit a distance that is further than my rescue club but shorter than my driver with accuracy more of a premium, you know, that par 4 where you need 235/240. I don't often use it as an " off the deck" 3 wood and when I have I generally fade/slice it and the face is deepish to look at but I usually use my hybrid which is pretty much my "go to" club it's so good!

Still got my 16* Mini SLDR in the bag, I use it on tight driving holes when accuracy is more important. It doesn't help a really bad swing but it certainly assists in keeping the ball in play, helps with confidence as well which is massive for high handicappers who may be struggling.
