Just a quick couple of question's for people who have stuck one of these in the bag.

I have been using my three wood much more lately from the tee it is nearly as long as my driver which to be fair my driving is a little shaky so 3 wood is a much better option.

When you got a mini driver did you use your driver but swap to this club or did you use a 3 wood before then change to this for more distance? Also how did you decide what loft to get and do you think you needed more or less loft than a 3 wood.

I have a bit in club shop vouchers and am thinking of one of these but there is no way to try first and I feel a little guilty to go to American Golf to have a go with no intention of buying.

Thanks for replies in advance.

Mostly used a 3 wood before and bought this to see if I could get more distance without using a proper driver. As I am not good enough to hit a driver with any consistency.

As for loft then I went for the middle one as that is what the shop had in stock.

I bought a TM R5 dual 3 wood in about 2007.

It's certainly the sort of club that favours tee shots more than fairway, although I do use it from both.

i.i.r.c. it was kind of big for it's day at 180cc.

Nothing would steal that club away from me. You can probably get one for £20 these days.

I still carry a driver and a 14 deg mini. Squeeze and extra few yards out of my driver and the mini is good for tighter holes. I can still hook the pants out of either of them though..... Don't use if off the fairway...

Having had a swish with Dragger's MD I have to say I'd be scared to death trying to hit it off the fairway.
I probably could but I doubt I'd be that consistent with it.
As a result it seems to me to be a club primarily for the tee so, as the name suggests, it should take the place of the driver.

PS Fragger still has one
Fragger still needs to prac5ice with it.....

I got one pretty close to release and have have been using instead of a driver. Got pretty comfortable with it and thought there was something in the tech so tried out the Jetspeed and Sldr driver. Am now 9degree Jetspeed and the. mini driver 14degree. Handicap on golf shake as not played comps for sometime was has gone from 26-21 in 3 months. I out a lot of that down to finding more fairways.

Distance ce difference is approx 20 yards. Highest with mini is 268. 291 with driver, bith downhill.

Average 227 from over 100 shots with mini and 249 with 14 driver.

Love both clubs.

In fairness then Papas that looks quite similar to normal 3 wood gaping.

My 3 wood to driver is probably around 15-20 yards but i'm quite inconsistent with the the driver compared to the three wood, I guess the other option is a more forgiving driver that my 910 d2 though I think it is more a mental thing.

My 3 wood previously was good from fairway but couldn't get along with it off the tee. I'd either have driver or hybrid. I think the extra size gives me more confidence. Do I think it's a magic club, maybe not. But it's defo given me more confidence which has help me Improve.

I have a 14 degree one, it's in the bag as a 3 wood; bit strong would prefer 16 as a 3 wood.

Having said that don't use it much off the deck and use it mainly off the tee.

It's 20 yards or so off my driver, would want 12 degree to consider dropping the driver and would then drop the 3 wood.

Find it wants to draw and is eady to hit off the deck, having said that I'm happy enough hitting the 460cc monstrosities off the deck.

Edit: I prefer the idea of deeper faced 3 woods as I have no trouble getting it airborne off the deck, rarely need it either and with the huge drivers prefer a deeper faced wood as a teeing alternative.

I'll let you know in a few months :)

I've used it once over 9 holes, got closer to the 2 par 5's on that 9 with it than usually with a driver in the bag.

At it's core it's a low spinning large faced 3 wood with a long shaft - which in practice means you can have a fair loft on it for confidence and fairway launching. As ever shaft will need to suit etc

I got 16 degrees - R shaft; and I'm enjoying it.

I got one literally the day it was launched and I love it. Goes about 20 yards further off the tee than my PING i25 3w and I find it easy to hit from the deck. It really is a fantastic club and I would recommend most high handicappers should drop their driver for one of these to try and keep the ball in play.

I now have a slight problem though, I got it as when I tested it, it was only around 15 yards shorter than my driver, but a bit more accurate, so I sold the driver and carried this along with my I25 3w. I got fitted for a SLDR driver as a wedding present from my darling wife and although not as straight as the Mini, it goes about 30 yards further.

So my problem now is this, the driver is back in the bag as it goes crazy distance with good accuracy so what do I do about a 3w? Carry the mini as it is a great weapon on tight driving holes and leave a gap of around 30-40 yards between that and my 2i. Or drop the PiNG back in and close the gap from my 2i down to about 20 yards but loose 20 yards from the tee box?

Im keen to try one of these. The driver can be a liability at times but I'm pretty consistent with the 3 wood off the tee and the deck. If I had one I think it would have to replace both existing driver and 3 wood which would give me room for another wedge. I may demo one today, possibly the SLDR.

I can't hit driver so was strictly using a 3 wood from the tee, I've had the Mini (I call her Minnie ;)) for a few months now purely as a tee shot club as she's a bit dodgy off the deck for someone of my ability.
My PP calls me Captain Fairways now lol although I still hit bad ones which is purely a swing fault. I really love the club, it's definitely helped bring some happiness back into my game.
It's the 16 deg reg btw.

Hey bought my mini driver because when I'm struggling with my driver which i sometimes do (not now) I want something i can fall back on to keep my hitting the fairways and hitting it a decent distance.
Like many of people they hit there 3 woods nearly as far as there driver and with how easy the club is to hit i really enjoy knowing i have options.

Another reason i bought it because on certain holes there's fairways you just cannot miss, on my local course there's 5 holes where i just cant miss the fairway or I'm going to be in trouble with how straight i feel i can hit it with a good distance too i feel very confident to pull out my mini, When there is more room i go with the driver.

The Mini driver is still a SLDR club which to me means loft up so i went with the 16 degree and i know i made the right choice, will take abit of practice off the floor but well worth the time

Think I'm gonna try one of these. My technique with driver has gotten very bad and it's high wide and handsome on every tee. Awful. Of course a new shiney will fix my woes, rather than a lesson. Naturally.

Thanks for that reply, I was wondering about the loft up idea and it it still stood for these.

I'm between a 14 or 16 for these but I am also unsure whether to go TP or normal, I really need to get out and hit some but as mentioned I know I will not be buying so feel guilty doing so.

As I'm much better with a 3 wood than a driver i'm wondering if TP is the way to go.

you really need to hit both in a way that ensures you can make an objective assessment; this includes loft and shaft.

as a leftie choice wasn't an option for me so I simply took the plunge at 16/R

I have an RBZ TP S Tour 14.5 3 wood to compare it too and they feel very different but both work for me - the Mini just seems easier to use from both tee and fairway from the little I have tried it on course and range. They both have the same shaft length.

I have 7 matches and 2 competitions from Wed next week to draw more detailed analysis on it's actual performance, and of course, whether current success is based on me finding out what the club does rather than what I can do with the club...at which point things tend to breakdown!

Cheers, will try to get to American Golf or the other main local shop and try for a few hits, was tempted with a SLDR driver too so may just go as looking and need to know if i'm needing one idea.

Thing is I do miss the distance of the driver but not the missed fairways etc...

you may, or may not, loose any distance on average - but that's going to depend on a whole lot of factors including driver specs.

If i'm totally honest i'm probable only 10-15 yards behind the driver with my current 3 wood so not looking at making up too much, we just have a couple of long par 5's that I really miss it on.

Been scoring so much better hitting the 3 wood due to consistency of strike, today I got a quick 12 in and was 5 over at that point on 30 points, not bad considering I am off 16. There are a few holes where that 10-15 yards makes quite a difference and a have a few pro shop vouchers burning a hole in my pocket.
