Mind The Gap

Agreed, if only to give the lie to the assumption by some of our "neighbours" that all English are Home Counties dwelling London workers and that the perceived inequality between Scotland (or Wales) and England is, in fact, the same issue faced by the majority of England.

Only mind the gap I know was at railway stations , now its something else , how times have change

I am beginning to understand that the English anti-London gravy train benefits brigade is now much larger than Cornwall.

Get beyond Northampton, coming North, and it has been for as long as I can remember. (And I'm as old as you!)

You are sounding a little resentful that Scotland has an opportunity to do something about it :)

Consider. 2020 - UK has pulled out of the EU and Boris is leader of the Conservatives in a Con-UKIP coalition government. Oh joys - I'm looking forward to that one.

A bit predictable as it was made in London.

Crossrail and HS2 makes you wonder where they will all go.
Huge costs to the rUk with no apparent benefits.
Boris want's the jam on the Rivita to go upwards instead of being spread evenly.

Crossrail is largely being funded by Londoners [60/40] along with some private funding and will run 'in profit' so should see a return of investment..
Still hoping HS2 will go away...
To be fair to Boris he has supported [stuck up for] those that elected him unlike Ken who got distracted, too easily, by side issues...

Ukippers are yesterdays people now.
Really New Labour are the new kids on the block.
Promised Scotland anything they want in DevoMax

Personally hoping for a quick demise of 'New' Labour and a return to 'Old' Labour...
Even dyed in the wool supporters, of Labour, from over the bridge have had enough of the current bunch of muppets...

£16 Billion, split 3 ways between taxpayers/local business rate increase/crossrail fares.

So £8 billion from UK taxation, then add £1 billion UK taxpayers will pay alone for the rolling stock....but I realise that London requires extraordinary sums of funding for things like these as plenty folk live there, plus I think some of the designs I've seen for the stations look really smart too.

Still difficult for those outside London to swallow.

Not that difficult to swallow!

We have got used to it in the near 70 years since WW2 that has seen an increasingly disproportionate amount directed towards London and its infrastructure.
Now that the inevitable result has arisen i.e. a stronger economy in London compared with the rest of the country it is used by Boris et al to justify even greater inequality of resources.

Perhaps it is time for devolving power to the regions.

We need to follow the example of Brazil and build a new UK seat of governance.

Preston would fit the bill nicely. Relatively easy access for all four countries

PS How come the Lundenerrs failed to financially support the Edinburgh trams project yet still expect Edinburgers to support Crossrail.

In the same way that there is virtually no central Government support for the Birmingham/West Midlands Metro.

'twas ever thus!
