Playing my new course today for the 1st time since joining 3 weeks ago, nice tap in par from 2 inches on the 1st after chipping on and hitting the pin.. tee off on the 2nd needing a nice big slice over and around the dogleg... thought I'd do it the 'conventional' way... (shift a little right then fire the hips in rotation whilst pretty much remaining stuck on the right foot)... the frikkin' pain was unbelieveable! nearly went down like a sack of spuds.

Kind of re-grouped and had a ciggy... hobbled to my ball... then thinned a wedge about 130 onto the green and nearly fell over in the process... I could hardly stand up.. or bend over.

Walked down a few hole holes in total agony,, hit a few wedges on the way back to the clubhouse... clubs in the car then had a nice pot of tea 4 two and several ciggys in the sunshine whilst comtemplating the future. The pro gave me the number for an osteopath (who happens to be his cousin which seems quite handy :mad::mad:) and even offered me a lift home if I couldn't drive (top bloke!)

Now I've made it home and sit here in agony (hurts to sit and hurts to stand) I'm not sure what the plan is going to be... I guess a months rest will be a start but the way if feels right now I'm thinking I might never play again :(

Shame really as the course looked lovely with probably the best greens I've seen in the last 3 years

I'm new here, but I'd just like to say that sporting injuries have a tendency to feel worse than they actually are. Just wait and see what the osteopath will say. No reason to bring yourself down prematurely

I'm sure You'll be able to continue golfing. Worst case scenario would be them restricting your usual routines :)

I don't want to alarm you but it sounds similar to the injury I suffered in August. It's only now i feel normalish again.

For now, get some volterol and cocodemol into you and get a cold compress on your back.

You have my sympathy. It frikkin hurts.

But surely if you decide to purposly play the wrong (sorry conventional) shot you have to accept the consequences . does the correct golf swing not have a shot that covers this kind of shot ? :D
Ia s lice classed as a shot , i like to call it an unexpected power fade :D:D

Just kidding ya man hope your better soon

Voodoo Dolls work better than V-Easy!

Good Luck with the recovery James. Broken Ankle put paid to much of my last season and I had a back 'go on me' years ago too - Chiropractor sorted it out.

quick query here? If you have trained your muscles to swing in a certain type of way, why on earth did you decide to change swings for 1 shot. This is where injuries happen unfortunately. What is wrong with your current swing that you decided it couldnt cope with that shot you needed?

Good point, why change what you are preaching to us every day.
As has been said,it will settle down pretty quick and you will be out
preaching S&T in notime.

Maybe like Mike Weir he has seen the light??

What is wrong with your current swing.....
Where do you want us to start?!!!! I am still shocked James that you can only thin a wedge 130 yards! Seriously, hope the old Cilla Black gets sorted soon (I would say we need you for the Old Farts vs Whippersnappers at Woodhall but cannot see those old gits running us close!!)

Hope you recover quickly Justone. It surprises me that more of us do not suffer the same more often. It seems to me that our back was never designed to cope with the bend and twist that we subject it to.

James, you really are made of chocolate.

Two things, one, it'll probably quieten down in a few days, and you'll be back in no time.

Two, stop trying to hit the ball so flipping hard.

Had you warmed up first? Or just had a warm up ciggie?

Get well for Woodhall. It wouldn't be the same if you aren't there. Well, the journey wouldn't be anyway.

I actually warmed up today for the 1st time ever and even went to the practice green for 15min (1st round at my new course and didn't want to card a cricket score after yesterdays lame performance, also using my shiny new AP2's for the 1st, and possibly last, time) and felt fit as a fiddle for the 1st time in ages

The shot isn't so far from my normal 'Bubba' push-fade swing so I simply chose to hang back on it a bit (weight-wise) to guarantee getting it airborne over the dogleg, a little less extension and a little more rotation, firing the hips 'around' instead of 'up'. I consider myself to be pretty flexible.... obviously not any more
