Has anybody used the microsoft band and the taylor made app, looking at it as an alternative to game golf as it has more uses, and you do not have to tag clubs its all done automatically.

Was in the market for a band/watch to help me track my pathetic attempts at running the other day. Looked at the Microsoft band as the golf thing did intrigue me, but most of the reviews I read said it was really uncomfortable to wear. Plus I was not convinced it would pick up all the proper shots and exclude the practice swings without tagging like you do with Game Golf. So got a Garmin running watch instead.

An excellent review in this months GM mag by Joel I believe, basically its the future and if i were game golf, i would be worried!

Messrs Shiels & Finch have them. No review yet but I'm sure it will come.

Pretty sure they were going to review it and compare it with Game Golf on their recent US trip sponsored by TM, but the band did not work for whatever reason.

I have been looking at these a lot, not just for the golf app. I am waiting for the new one which is due out on 6th October. Read up its waaaay better than the V1.

I'm not sure how the band will know what club you've hit and according to the My Round Pro data it doesn't look like it has any stats on distances with clubs etc. I just knows you hit a tee shot x amount of yardages and other shots. You might be able to edit shots with clubs afterwards but it's a lot to remember in a round. The MS band is about £150 and game golf is around the same.

The way the app integrates with the MS health app on the phone and the taylormade app is pretty neat. For the health stats alone it's a better prospect than GG. The UI does look cleaner than GG and any MS Phone user who plays golf is on to a good thing there. I have an iPhone and I'm a wee bit jealous.

MS Band fully integrates with iOS and Android... The only thing that is MS phone only is the voice controlled thing (Whatever MS Siri is called)

I think the fact that it does not know what clubs you hit is a bit of a non starter to me. And life is too short to input them all afterwards. Yes the myriad of stats are useful to some golfers, but I'd think the vast majority of amateurs will be more interested in finding out easily without lots of editing how far their clubs are going. But might be wrong.

I think it looks interesting and would be looking into buying one. The fact that it records stats and gives you basic distances is great. I like going through my rounds after remembering the shots I have played so inputting doesn't really put me off. The major thing is that I don't like wearing anything on my wrist when I am playing so will have to see how comfortable it is.

I'm the other way. I don't care about knowing what club I hit how far, and what's more, I'd rather it didn't track it.

I tried the GameGolf phone app, and (mentally weak of me maybe) I found myself choosing clubs with the thought in the back of my mind that the app is collating these clubs and distances and wanted them to be a true reflection.

A full swing with a 9 iron (conditions excepted) for me carries 140yds, but not every 140yd shot is a 9 iron. I might hit an easy 8, a punch 7, or if I'm under some branches I might hit my hybrid. I even hit driver from 150 a couple of months ago.

I like the idea of the band recording things with zero input from the user. Standard stats are good if the GPS is accurate. I really like strokes gained stats, but until there's way of telling the band where the hole is they are useless for anything other than tee shots.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. I reckon it would be far more useful to get your yardages done, write them somewhere and carry on. GG stats are all over the shop because of your points. I don't always go full on with my clubs either.

My thoughts exactly. I got pulled into number blindness myself recently and scores have suffered, look at the watch, 130, 9 iron. Except when its in the air I realise Im on an upslope and have underclubbed. Left the watch at home, but that didn't solve it. Took a half set, that did the trick, I was much more focussed on what way I should be playing the shot and got a small cut for the first time in months.

Me too, I didn't buy into game golf from the start because I thought itd be too intrusive. This looks good and will get better, I'll not invest now but will defo keep an eye on its development

To remind everyone, The Band 2 is due to be released on the 9th October and is leaps and bound improvements on v1!

Worth bearing in mind, I know someone who works for Microsoft and he returned his band. His advice is that the current model is just not up to scratch and the version 2 will be far better. I will wait for his feedback on that before looking at one.
