Has anyone seen the US team press conference? Phil seemed to have a go at Watson, criticised the formula for captaincy, and his good Azinger was in 08, what's everyone's feeling on this?

I'm not sure he criticized him tbh. He answered a question about Azingers captaincy in '08, not Watson in '14. He quite clearly says 'oh, I'm sorry you're taking it that way, I'm just talking about what Paul did to help us play to our best' when it's put to him that it's a brutal destruction of the leadership.

Media creating a story out of nothing imo. No surprise there then.

It might be just that Paul Azinger had the advantage of being up against the most inept European captain of all time! :mmm:

Pay a visit to the golfchannel.com and you can watch the "USA" interview's. Some bitching going on there but it's nice that they keep some standards in wearing a blazer

Thanks for that, he is clearly not happy to say the least.

Am i right in thinking Watson had been captain before? will be interesting to see who wants the job if the USA are already fighting each other

Quite an interesting comment with regard to the vice captains role really helping for Europe, do the USA not have vice captains I always assumed they would have

fact is at the end of the day the players didn't perform - cant blame the captain for that

Correct. You hit the ball, find the ball and hit it again, trying to get round the course hitting said ball as few times as possible. You really don't need a captain to do that. Ok, he picks who goes out and when but a professional should be able to pair up with anybody and against anybody.

True, Watsons comment about the foresomes very true too

Only thing Watson could have done better was pick better golfers - Simpson has won once since US Open 2012 and Bradley hasn't been able to close anything out for a couple of years. Madness for him to leave out Kirk and Horschel - the two most in form players in the world. yes Bradley and Simpson have 'experience', but so does Arnold Palmer. Why not pick him. Experience counts for nothing unless you can hit the ball good and those two cannot

Totally - if they'd all gone out and beaten their man they would have walked it. But they didn't.
As far as mcginley goes I thought playing McIlroy Garcia was unbelievably stupid. I would have never played Poulter with Gallagher. But I wouldn't have played Stenson rose or McDowell dubuisson either.
As for Watson he should have played mickle son Bradley in four balls only maybe. But who would have put Spieth and reed together.

European team are better at the top and more in form down the bottom - they were always going to win.

Fair comment.

Although I do think you need a bit of experience in a team it can't be denied that the rookies/youngsters were the US teams better performers all weekend.
A lack of experience can often be offset by the lack of fear that younger players tend to have.

I thought Mickelson was way out of order. Cringe worthy stuff if you ask me. Mickelson and Faldo should team up. Faldo was a fool as captain but TW is a true gent and handled it like a true gent would.
In all seriousness, to say what he said, in front of the world media, in front of one of the all time greats that is Tom Watson. Mickelson has went way down in my estimation.
