My ultimate goal is to get Gamegolf or a Microsoft Band so I can track my game more accurately, but in the meantime I was thinking it would be good to track some stuff manually.
At the moment I mark putts on my card and indicate penalties and sand shots as well. A good starting point and I can work out GIR from that info as well. But I was wondering if anyone has any clever methods for logging any further data on the round?
Of interest would be where a shot ends up. So fairway/1st/2nd/rough, left/right of fairway if off fairway. Club used.
Distances would just be guestimates due to only having a mobile with GPS at the moment, and it's slow to calculate, so I leave it in the bag.
I tried using mScorecard (I'm on Win Phone) on my round to collect data but it's no good in the rain, and is slow to use. Much prefer marking a card and then transferring the data later.
Any thoughts, ideas, etc?

If you are not after major accuracy, you can always print off a plan of the course from Google maps, then manually add your shots onto that to get a general idea of your game.

If you are new to the game, then I don't think you'll get that much benefit from it as you are still learning and improving your swing, which will probably happen at a pretty quick rate. Once you've been playing for a while and get a consistent game, then things like Game Golf will come into their own as they'll show the area's you could use most practise on.

I use swingxswing and you can upgrade for about £15 which allows you to track where the shot goes (left, right, straight) whether you hit it thin or fat, bunkers found, putts, and you can track the distance for each club.

I love stats and numbers but sports stats don't interest me much. I us my head and feel out what needs improvement.

Until it's all automated I would say it's not worth the time and energy.

My vote is for your own mind :)

Good idea with gmaps. Not too bothered if I'd benefit from the stats. But I find it really interesting to see where I end up. :)

Another thumbs up for scoresaver. It has a printable card for marking the stats that fits behind a normal card and takes a matter of seconds to fill in. Putting the stats in after takes about 5 minutes tops once you have set up the course (you need to do one for each tee box at your home course). However the range of info you get is impressive

Microsoft band now £69.99, it's as cheap as budget rangefinder but might be worth a punt to track your shots as well, I've just ordered mine before they're all gone. New model comes out later in the month at over £200 but I'll see how this works first. It was either this or Game Golf but was keen on all the tagging mullarkey.

Used game golf sets will be hitting e bay about now, due to the release of the live version. Worth a look.

Hi. That's a great price. I'm looking for a medium band. Where did you see that price and was it for a new one. Don't want to spend that much for a second hand ebayer

I've just put this one on my phone to try, had to guess a few of the putting distances as my old app never wanted this data.
notepad going in the bag now, first round entered, we'll see how it pans out over the winter .

How are you getting on with GRGS app? I've just downloaded it as I've given up on my Microsoft Band. There are a lot of stats but I don't see 'Strokes Gained' as one of them.
