Mersey Valley Golf Club

i put it in as the worst course ive ever played. the condition wasnt bad, i was just bored to death with the fact it was so flat. it made me feel homesick ! :(


best options are huyton and prescot or eccleston park. EP is a very under rated course. apart from the pylon in the middle its a super test of golf :)

Thanks for that, know why they are offering good deals now! Played Ecclestone Park and thought it was ok, played at H & P loads of times, just don't think it's worth £1K a year

Peterlav, They are doing regular offers on Groupon recently although never played it, yet!
 
Hello mate, seen the vouchers, think it was only £45 for a 4 ball with a bacon buttie, that's what got me thinking of joining, it's only 15 mins from ours.
I'll phone them tomorrow, see what they can offer, do you fancy a game there?
 
I agree with Gary, flat and also pretty featureless. I have not played it for a few years for that very reason.

This comes straight from their website. If that's how they sell themselves, you know it's going to be a little tedious.

I play at Eccleston Park and I do find it a good course. It is young and it can show sometimes, but it is noticeable that it's improving all the time and I can definitely recommend it.

Looking for value for money, would pay S&A money (know a couple of members), but it's 40 mins away, so would struggle to play through the week after work. Was a member at West Derby for 16 years, but it's closed for large portions of the winter.
Out of the other established clubs in the area (Huyton & Prescot, Woolton, Childwall, Lee Park) think Childwall is the best course, but not the friendliest club.
Looking at some of the newer clubs in the area, played NW National and thought it was a nice layout, but very young, should be good in a few years, same as Ecclestone Park, which I played about 3 years ago.
Any suggestions?
All I want is local, established, value for money, good course, friendly club. Not too much to ask is it? :)

Peter, have you tried Grange Park?

If you fancy a knock at our gaff give us a shout.
 
i played childwall the week before joining lee park. its a nice course but not worth the £900 joining fee over lee park. they are pretty much on a par with each other. ive been a member 3 days :thup:

really enjoyed childwall. i turned up on a bank holiday(by myself) and the pro sent me out with two members and gave me the reduced rate. thought that was nice of him.

Pete, Lee park isn't the greatest course around, but has improved a lot and is still improving, but at £950 is still one of the cheapest. It also has free reciprocal golf at H&P, West Deby, gathurst, Bidston, plus all the other jewish courses around the country, so easily worth another £100 of your membership.

It is a friendly "working man's club" atmosphere in the clubhouse. The greens should be great in the next week or so, and is open when the likes of H&P and West Derby is shut. Come for a knock in the next 2-3 weeks with me, Scouser,garyinderry or Podgster, whether wanting to join or not.
 
How far are you looking to travel? There is Houghwood (near the NWN) or going the other way, Frodsham, Helsby or Blundell Hills.....

JP - working the "wrong" side of the bridge, I may be in touch for a knock another time. I played about 14 at Sutton hall a few years ago, would like to finish the job off. Always welcome at Lee park, BTW.
 
Will definitely play Lee Park with you fellas, only played it once before, must be about 20 years ago!

Think the 'other' side of the bridge is a definite non starter, worked over there a couple of days last week, road rage over the bridge, then stepping onto the first tee, not good!

Grange park as nice as it is is £1000 per year with same joining fee.

Eccleston is about £700 no joining fee, friendly members, need to get off early or play late to avoid slow play as comps tend to take around 5hours. Greens are great a good test, a nice long 235 par 3. Like others say its young, but when the wind is blowing can punish you and play much longer than the 6400 yards it is.
