Merrist Wood GC, Surrey

How did you get on? it’s a great set up and very long.

I’m looking to play there soon (1st time). I was showed around by a guy named Barry, (nice bloke) I’m looking to join there too once my redundancy package comes though. :-)

If you're thinking of Merrist Wood, want a long course and can afford a bit more you might want to look at Mill Ride, a much better track in my opinion and of equal length. Will probably cost you £300 more a year

I played it last year. I Don't remember a thing about it. I won the society day though.

I have just googled it, and it is coming back to me. Has stupid drainage ditches at driving distance (150 yards ish). Drove me nuts.

Wern't scoring as I didn't want it to cloud my judgement when it came to deciding! Was very challenging though. Yeah I've been in contact with Barry as well, was supposed to meet yesterday but he was off ill.

Yeah I looked at Mill Ride, however it is slightly out of my price range, they wanted double what Merrist wanted a month. Couldn't afford it unfortunately.

I've played MW numerous times. It's not a course that sticks in the memory. If you are comparing Mill Ride then there is no comparison.
MW has a few nice holes and a little water here and there. It's certainly not a bad course and definately worth a round or two. It's much better played off the Blue / white tees otherwise some of the holes can be rather straight / short and routine.
I would not contemplate being a member there when for a little more you have the fabulous Camberley Heath and Mill Ride nearby for a little more. (deals to be had).
Also Pyrford / Hoebridge are much better imo crown courses not too far away.

Mill Ride is about £1650 I think and they were doing no joining fee, this was about 4 weeks ago. I thought Merrist was about £1300?

Hoebridge is a Burhill course unless it has been sold recently but I agree it is a better course than Merrist, not as long though and very very busy.

One of our Saurday roll up has joined Mill Ride and so I'm going over for a game in the next few weeks. He says a few holes are still boggy but what can you expect given the conditions. I have to be honest and say Mill Ride would win over Merrist Wood all day for me in terms of condition and layout. If you could scrimp the extra £20 or so per month I'd go to Mill Ride given the choice between the two

Anybody here a member or played there?

Not played there but pretty sure that its a crown course so I can play it being a member of another crown course.

Bear that in mind, because you can play other crown courses like Pineridge, South Winchester, Sherfield, etc as part of the scheme. Restrictions apply though.
