Meon Valley - any good ?

Yeah, its not bad. Middle of the road course, i would say. Depends what you are used to i guess.

Generally its in reasonable nick. The 12th is a nice downhill par 3 over a pond whilst the 17th is a cracker. Its not the sort of course you'll rave about but its a decent, solid course all the same.

Only played it once a couple of years ago. We'd had a lot of rain and it was quite wet underfoot with a few temp greens but it was a pretty decent course. There is an excellent par 3 (14th?) with a big elevated tee and a lake protecting the green. Take enough club is all I will say!

It's a Marriott and not one of the better ones but it's ok - a great deal amount of courses in the area are better

Expensive food and drinks with a scruffy golf course with wall to wall guests

No different to places like the Belfry, St Pierre, Forest of Arden etc etc It's how they make their money by getting as many on course as they can and paying big money in the bar after. You must know that these places aren't going to be cheap, and in a lot of cases the course may not be top notch, although when I played the Marriots I named (St Pierre and FoA) they were actually in very, very good nick. If you don't want to pay £4.50+ for a beer don't play there

pretty decent course - but beware if it's wet. Played there after some heavy rain and it was like a quagmire in places.
