Men using Ladies Golf Balls - Illegal???

Could anyone tell me if a man using a Ladie's golf ball is against the rules of golf?

I personally do not use them but we gave a sleeve of ladies golf balls to the loser of our golf day and a member of our society advised its illegal for a man to use a ladies golf ball.

Only thing I could come up with was its possibly to do with the compression?

if it's on the list of conforming balls it's legal.

Ah, the comedy value in statements like "Mate, are those your pink balls?"

The compression would be higher but for the extra distance gained at higher swing speeds would you generate tons of spin too? That's mean I'd hit them miles - but into the rough!!

They can work well for slower swing speed players who can benefit from the lower compression.

I seem to remember a ball being rebranded as the Precept (I think) Laddie to make it more acceptable for men to use while still being the same, or largely the same , as the Precept Lady it was originally.
