i play in a society were women have started played in the same competitions as the men,one of the ladies plays off over 30 handicap,we use gross stableford handicap scoring format, does the fact that mens par 68 to ladies par 72 have any baring to ladies handicap/adjustment to handicap? :D

We play one event a year where ladies and gents play together. the ladies play off their tees and play against the gents ss. They get additional strokes based on the difference between ladies & gents ss.

This is what we do.

Baffled me for ages how all this works but finally had it explained properly to me last season. I play in a society with lady members too and this is the script.....

If the ladies par is more than the men's (not uncommon) then at Stableford everyone just scores the same against their par for each hole. This results in 36 points for any player playing to their handicap.

In a medal the lady should receive a number of additional shots based on the difference between par for each course. This is because if a lady plays to her handicap on a ladies par 73 course she will score a nett 73. If a man does the same on his par 70 course he returns a nett 70. All the three shot addition to the ladies handicap does is even things up and make the two players who play to their handicap return the same score.

I've also seen the shots based on difference in SSS too.

I'd be looking for a new society, baffles me why women want to do what we do. Womens golf, football rugby, tennis they are even driving cars. I don't know about anyone else but I never get the urge to Vac- up, iron clothes, do the washing, and make a bed.Why can't they stick to their own stuff?

DCBs link is the way to go. I would have thought just play the the Par and use SIs as determined on the card but using the SSS to adjust the scores does seem a fairer method.

Agreed - downward slope once they let women into mixed doubles

We allow ladies to play in Saturday comps with the men, so long as they have paid a full sub. There are 6 that have taken it up so far. No problems with summer comp handicaps as they play to their own card off their own tees, with an adjustment for medals to level out the difference in the SSS's. However, winter comps are a nightmare, trying to judge how many extra shots to give them based upon a short course where the reds and usually on the mat next to the yellows, so no distance differential.

We have slope rating in effect where each set of tees has its own rating. I.e. from the white tees I play off 14 whereas from red it would be 6.

The rating tables are different for men and women though.
