Is it usual that once your child reaches 14 they have to pay a joining fee aswell as the membership making it around £350, her old club did'nt but Ive been pre warned by a member this will be the case. If so she better get a paper round.

At 14 my sons fee was approx £60 and over the next few years the rise was only inflationary. When he got to 19 it went up more substantially but was still only £150. There has never been a joining fee. The club does try to encourage juniors. Even now at 21 his 7 day fee was approx £350.

Never had one in my day (back in the 80's). It was a set fee and went up in incremental stages (14, 16, 18, 21 and then adult fees at 23). I don' think its a forward thinking way of encouraging young new talent

Am I right with this?

Your daughter is already a member, but plans to move?
The new club wants £350?

£350.....that is absolutely crazy.

Most clubs DO NOT require juniors to pay a joining fee.
Clubs tend to charge way less for juniors....around here it's about £100-160 p.a.

This club needs to sort it out.

WRONG, WRONG.

:D

Dave is so right about this no club should be charging a Junior anything like this.

I think Leeds council charge £60 for Jr's and that covers 365 days a year over 5 tracks one been created for the 1929 Ryder cup (that unfortunatly went to Moortown).

Shes a member of the junior short course at present with no joining fee, just membership, but they said to join the 18 hole its no joining fee unless they are 14 or over for the next membership year.

I'm not up on all this but my first reaction was thats abit steep. She is a member at another 18 hole course & ive been down this morning & they said they dont charge a joining fee till they are 18 but thats at a reduced rate. I dont think we will be carrying on with the club thats charges a joining fee as all the other local clubs dont. Its a very good course but not at that price.
