Bit of help needed here.

I'm hoping to join a club soon and probably as 5-day member. I play almost all my golf during the week due to weekend commitments so this seems the best way. However, I would like to play the occasional weekend Medal or other Compy.
The club I'm looking at has a rule that no 5-day member can enter weekend compys. I can pay extra to play at the weekend if I wish but I can't enter compys. :(

Is this normal?

Thats rubbish!!!!!

Sorry I cant actually answer or assist in your question but that is the single most crap piece of ruling i've ever seen regarding golf!!

Can they not just let you play the occasional weekend medal & pay for your green fee's on the day?

It has been the same at all the courses I have played at over the years. I guess weekend medals are for those who stump up the extra lolly for full membership. On the up side you CAN play your courses Open.

At my last club there was full 7-day, 5-day and Associate memberships. 5-day and associates could pay the weekend green-fee and enter all compys.
The new club has weekday compys but I'd feel like a 2nd class member if I couldn't play weekends.

It's the same at our place, and I agree with it. If your paying reduced subscriptions, then why should you take the place of a full subscription paying member? We have 5 day members and restricted (11 hole) members, who all have their compys in the week, and I don't join them. The thing about our place, is that most of the 5 day members are retired, so can play 5 days a week. I'm a 7 day member, but work for 5 of those days, so can only play Sat and Sunday, should I be able to get a 2 day (weekend) membership?

What a load of ******** i am a 5 day member of my golf club like you i have commitments at the weekends but on the weekend comps i have would have to pay the green free but can enter the comps. I find it very difficult to belive that they have such a ruling on this. If i were you i would challange this and at least get some sort of explanation way this is the case and if they stand by it depending on the outcome i would reconsider a different club if you feel that strongly.

I guess entering the comps is one of the reasons why people fork out for full memberships.

As a 5 day, you could pay a green fee and play on the course, but you can't enter the comp as you are not a member. Just as another pay and play visitor.

The ruling for 5 day members which I think is tough is the one where bank holidy mondays are viewed as a weekend, not a week day.

The other club in town does let 5-dayers play in weekend comps as long as they pay the £25 green-fee. It looks to me like they will get my business unless HID goes with the full membership idea.

My only real gripe about this situation, be it right or wrong, is that a 5-dayer can't play club championship or Captain's Day or the other club "Majors" as, certainly at this club, the vast majority are played at the weekend thereby excluding the 5 - dayers. This means that you are a 2nd class member - albeit paying less than the full rate.

I agree with other posters. I pay for full membership, but only get to play on Sundays, or in the evenings dependant on commitments. So why should you get an exemption as a 5 day member to have full access to weekend comps ?

Not being argumentative for the sake of it, I just agree with the principal of the common ruling that seems to be at most clubs.

Anyway, full membership for me is only costing £62.50 a month. AS long as I get 3 full rounds in, I've got my monies worth.

I'm not saying I should get an exemption. I'm quite happy to pay the weekend green fee to play in a compy.

You pay full membership. The fact that you only play Sunday or evenings is your choice - admittedly determined by commitments. You are allowed to play during the week if you are able to. I can't see a problem with allowing 5-dayers to pay a green fee and enter weekend compys.
Aylesbury Park does and it looks like they shall get my cash.

I don't think 5-day member should be allowed to enter any of of the big competitions, full members pay the premium to have that luxury, 5-day membership is normally a fair whack less than the 7-day membership so with that comes the limitations.
I don't think it's anything to do with being a second class citizen, you pay less, you get less.

Have to say its standard practice at every club I've been at. There are specific midweek events that 5 day members can play in but they can't enter the weekend ones. I can see the argument on both sides but if thats the rule of the club I don't see it being changed without all the 5 day members taking the matter up. As many may be newbies waiting for 7 day membership to come up I wonder how many would rock the boat as well as those who are retired and happy to play 5 days at less crowded times.

What club is it Imurg, Aylesbury Park? How much is the 5 day membership?

What about Aylesbury Vale/Waterstock or are there to far?

A Vale is the club I have the problem with. A Park looks to be getting my cash. Unfortunaely Waterstock's just a bit too far away - at least 35 minutes from home. Too many others closer.

Good fun to play but awfully short and not tricky at all. Played it a few times and I barely need a 5 wood let alone a driver. Longest hole 416 off the whites - and half of that's downhill.
Playing Aylesbury Park again Friday with CVG - if i still like it then HID will get a talking to over the weekend!!
