just had an email from the secretary of my club, good news...

membership fees dropped for the second year running, this year we see a reduction of 2.4%,

a bit of all above, trying to encourage new members and keep existing members.

next year will be £480 for 7 day and £384 for 5 day membership

we have to add on membership to the social club with is mandatory so an extra £35. but this includes all union fees and a county card

with no pro shop we run an honesty box for green fees, we have had another good year which also helps to offset membership fees

I'd be happy if ours was the same price again next year, but no doubt an increase, despite £350,000 back from IR. spend it like its water and just expect us to pay.

AGM tomorrow night. Agenda has a proposal for a £30 increase which seems pretty standard though I hear a number of people may want to increase it even more

Have a feeling we're in line for a £30-£50 increase. We'll see but think we'll getting close to the point when a few will be thinking it's getting close to the maximum price for what we're getting for the money.

We keep on hearing about our clubs attempts to get a piece of this, but have no outcome as yet. How did your place get it?

Our club has members dropping like flies. At the awards night last week a lot of the winners were leaving. I'm not sure if that will push the price up for renewing members or push the price down to encourage new members.

I think one of the mistakes clubs make when losing members is to increase fees to cover the drop. They should look at it from the other end. Drop fees to encourage more to join.

If the fees are the only reason people are joining or leaving I think they should just close down - the end.

Most of the courses that do close start their decline when they stop spending necessary money on the course, and greens staff & equipement. Then they keep the course open for income when it should be closed. Downward spiral.

There's a right amount of money for an appropriate level of services. Arguably the discounting courses aren't bring people in, they are slowly killing a whole lot more who feel the need to compete and join the above cycle of destruction.

Pursue the inland revenue.

It's HMRC not Inland Revenue.

In 2012 Bridport & Dorset GC challenged HMRC on charging VAT on visitor income, for the periods from 1990-1996 and 2005-2009. Legal technicalities prohibited claims outwith these periods.

After legal debate, the outcome in 2014 was that HMRC lost this case, resulting in VAT no longer being payable on visitor income from July that year. Since then, HMRC have calculated the rebates due to all clubs who have submitted claims, including interest,

I didn't think the rebates were actually paid out yet - still red tape etc about interest

we were awarded it a couple of months ago i believe, at least that's what the club has publicised. it was also in the local press at the time

Yes Clive you are right its HMRC not the IR

Iam a member of a Q resort course and pay £78 a month for full seven day membership and can use any other Q course. We get the same tee times every sat/sun 9-30.And can use the gym which I have never set foot across.I don't mind a price increase if you can see where the money is getting spent. But a decrease would be nice.

No increase again this year due to money paid to the club for laying wind farm cables to the Grid.

As well as the price freeze, car park is being re surfaced, clubhouse spruced up, improvements to the course and at long last an air pressure cleaner is being installed next to the 18th green
