Probably not the best time of year to do it but finally decided the times right to join a club again, it's been a few years since I was last a member, haven't had time the last few years to make it worth it , but now the kids are a bit older got a lot more time for golf now, been playing local couses with mates had some good games with the odd bit of cash changing hands, the odd pressure putt for a few quid, but I've missed the real competitive side, can't wait to start playing in comps again, got my name down for the winter league, hopefully get my 3 cards in in time, lost interest in the game for a few years but it's great iv'e got the bug back again, roll on the summer, can't beat the feeling of waiting all week for a comp then thinking after 3 holes " why the hell did I bother "😀 it's good to be back

more details needed mate, where have you joined?

Brandon wood mate, just outside coventry, tried to get alistair to do me an offer on the arden but it was a bit over budget at the minute, Brandon's not a bad course, struggles in the wet being right next to the river Avon. Course I played when I was a kid, your welcome to come for a knock

Always pleased to welcome someone back to the fold. Expect no higher than 14 for the handicap.

How did you know 😀 played it two weeks ago ( first time in years ) shot 86, was in the high 90s when I played there before, must remember the trees are bit taller now, can't cut corners anymore 😃

Was i that transparent lol :) Be good to sort something out (im sure i play golf in Coventry more than anywhere else these days lol)

Glad you've got somewhere sorted.

Was up at an on course group lesson last week with Alistair and one of the others there was a member, having talked to him couldnt see me being a member there at the prices unless I already knew a handful + of existing members.

Lol welcome anytime, prices have gone up since last time I was a member there, doubt I'd be getting my money's wort on the arden, Brandon's only £60 a month so perfect for me for now,

Pleased for you, I know the course well and its a good test, my only issue when I was looking around is its a council run pay & play to a degree and it can get very busy along with some numpty's in front and the course can be long enough without that palaver. I suppose you don't get that on comp days but was a factor for me.

Are there member only days/times?

Its good value, will be looking for an invite along with Fundy

Alistair has hinted at membership at FOA to me also, but its nearly £2k I think

Tbh that's one of the reasons I had'nt played it for a few years, had too many five hour rounds there in the past, but it's changed a lot since I last played it, they've got a new green keeper so greens are a lot better than I remember, rumours are they might be getting another 9 holes built? It was more the price than the course tbh, it'll do for now, just happy to get back playing again, your welcome anytime, might want to wait for the decent weather though, it's soaked already. Better start saving the pennies for the FOA,

T might want to wait for the decent weather though, it's soaked already.,

Yes it very low level when you think geographically where it is so drainage is always something they've battled with and a good downpour late in the week can mean no golf or limited holes at the weekend, £60 per month is good, but if you lose a good few months over winter it might not look as good a value, depends on your flexibility to play it in the week as well as weekends?

Did you look at Stoneleigh or is that the wrong side and too far for you?

Quinn, I'm surprised you didn't join one on your side of town to be honest. West Midlands would've been worth considering for you surely? Nice course and it's rarely closed as they have cracking drainage. I guess Windmill would've been too small for you, but Stonebridge may have been worth having a look at, membership starts at something like £300 over there I think?

Anyhoo, it looks like you're setting up a forum meet so count me in when the nicer weather comes back around ;).

Heading out Brandon way, The Warwickshire would've been my choice as it's not a bad price for a couple of nice courses.
