I was channel hopping the other night and found Gold was showing reruns of Not the nine o'clock news. The sketch I saw was Stout Life, found the link on you tube.
One of my earliest memories of comedy was Not The Nine O'clock News, his passing is a real loss. The Gerald the Gorilla sketch is one of the best of all time IMHO, a real classic.
"When I caught Gerald in '68 he was completely wild."
"Wild? I was absolutely livid!"

The sketch where he and Rowan Atkinson do Panorama by just tearing up the Radio Times to make crap bracelets and ear-rings is just priceless comedy. He did have a lot of health issues but he made me laugh an awful lot during his career. RIP Mel.
Very sad to hear this. Not the Nine O'Clock News was ground breaking comedy. Looks a bit dated when you see it now. Failed in Wales was a classic satirical sketch.
