So iv got a new pro who is a master pga pro who cost me £60 for 50 minutes and teachs with the gm2 tracker (about 25k worth) and the whole lesson concentrates on the figures this machine pulls up.
Now don't get me wrong I know if I work on getting the figures he wants me to get I will be playing solid golf no doubt about it BUT he don't give me any drills to work on away from the lessons, he just wants to see good numbers on the gm2 tracker.

Now how can I work on my numbers away from the simulator if I don't have any drills to work on in the mean time ? He just wants me to remember what I did when I hit a good shot ! Sounds easy but I'm shore most of you know nothing is easy in golf.

Now with my old pro I would get solid drills to work on with notes and diagrams explaining what to do and he only cost me £40 per hour ( but is a 5 hour round trip) and I felt I got more than my money's worth. Iv had 3 lesson with this new guy and my ball striking has improved big time but feel a bit lost during the time I don't see him.

I don't know what this rant is about but I feel not to use this guy any more even though he has the technology I want and and every qualification you can get but just seems to rely on the technology WAY to much as he forgets I don't have 25k to go and buy the same set up.

An example, I was swaying back in the back swing he said don't sway, I didn't even know I was swaying so I ask what do I do to stop it ? His answer 'just stop'

What do I do ????

do you really need to be told. pretty sure you know the answer to this one!

find a pro you can communicate with and also one that gives you drills. without something to work on till the next lesson what can you do?

A pro that is good for your game is someone you can relate to, understand and work with..... Your master pro doesn't sound like that person.

In a recent lesson I worked on stopping the swaying.... I was given a simple drill to simulate this feeling which I can do while standing waiting to the kettle to boil, standing in the shower ..., basically standing anywhere ... That to me is a master pro ,

Thats what I need someone who wants me to practice the routines away from him.

a master pro is some who studied for 7 years instead of the 3 I believe, maybe they are just bad listeners so it takes longer ;)

I think we all need a mixture of drills and data and like Garyinderry says, you are answering your own question. My pro is getting me to do swing changes too that I don't much like and I've lost the strike that was so good last year. He says the the strike will return when I get the swing sorted but I'm not convinced, so today's could be the final lesson! You have to like the way the coach works or move on I reckon

you basically funding his monitor and him spending 50 minutes watching you hit balls!

I would have told him after about 10 mins, we always start a lesson with me hitting a few then going into the next step he wants me to undertake, if I havent got everything ingrained from the last lesson then we go into it again before moving on.

I don't have lessons for these type of reasons, for me im happy to work things out myself.

However for those of you that have lessons, you seem sometimes not to believe what the pro
is telling you,or you don't trust it,and because it does not seem to be working you give up and
look to move on to another pro.

Surely if your going to waste your money on lessons,at least give it time for the pro
to implement his changes.

In the case above imo you have to tell him what you want.

Does his shop have big windows ?

You said you've had 3 lessons with him and your ball striking has improved big time. So, has it? What are you paying him for? To improve your ball striking or to give a drill to make you feel like you're working on your game while you boil a kettle?

If he has improved your ball striking big time and done so without filling your head full of crap to think about between lessons then maybe he really is a master pro.

That does makes sense. Now I'm seriously confused on what to do

Sounds about right to me. Do you want to learn to play golf, or find a new Facebook friend? :D

This has the makings of a really interesting thread

Re my bold: on the one hand you were asking for a drill or technique to stop a swaying movement you made... on the other hand you were actually asking him to tell you how you can stop swaying!

The former sounds a sensible enough request until you look at it from the latter perspective ;)

As I say, could be interesting...

''my ball striking has improved big time but feel a bit lost during the time I don't see him.''

does this mean that you hit it well under his watchful eye but don't get the same results away from him as he hasn't told you anything specific to do so you have no point of reference.

As above!

What do you want from your golf (and use of valuable leisure time) - for me no.1 is to enjoy myself and have fun. If your goal is different then fine but know what it is because everything should lead to that.

I have a couple of 30 mins lessons a month which has really helped, we use a mix of trackman data, video analysis, drills (even had me swinging a yard brush a couple of weeks ago) and all lessons end with a discussion on what to work on during practice as well as discussion on what not to worry about when playing. For me the mix and clear link between tuition sessions, practice and course play is essential and cannot (and should not) be done in isolation.

My 2c anyway.

Simon

I am not sure if I could cope with this. Shouldn't the data be used to identify areas of improvement that you can both discuss, he can demo, and you can go away and work on? I sometimes wish that my pro wouldn't spend so much time on just the video cam, but he's certainly improved my game after analysis and setting my homework. Remember that your strikes can improve just by someone watching over you, rather like a personal trainer grinding out a couple of extra reps from his/her client. Agree with previous post that you should really enjoy lessons and feel good about the time spent there. It's all down to personal pereference in the end.
