Hi all

Following your advice to try MD irons, i love them!

I really need to purchase a Gap wedge and I also want to change my lob wedge.

A few questions, whats the difference between Seve and Drew Wedges, are they just difference years?

Also is there a way I can find out the loft of my SW and PW on my ST2 irons?

Thanks :)

Based on previous md irons I would have said you PW is 46 and your SW is 56.

Not sure if there a definitive reason for the two types of wedge, but I had the drew low bounce and they are awesome ... Still got em in the garage, as I've just not got around to selling yet.

Haha!

Dont have a big budget and I love a deal, Brand new irons for less than £100 and I love them!

I bought the driver, got on with it so felt no need to change it, and in fact I am going to look at their air force one driver too purely because the driver I have impressed me so much for the money.

i have told the story before about playing in the ENGLISH SENIOUR OPEN pro /am at ST MELLION and winning the longest drive comp,at the evening function i was given a brand new driver from the M.D range ( I THINK CROWN GOLF HAD THE FRANCHISE ON THESE CLUBS) not needing a new driver especial a low end one the next day i went to the pro shop at ST MELLION to ask for an exchange,he just laughed at me and said it was worth a £10 to him as that's what he got them in for!!!! i gave it as a prise to the junior section when i got home,2 weeks later it was in the bargain bin in the pro shop priced at £15,same as dunglap's entry level fodder.

I think that has to go down as your loss then, if you read the reviews they are very highly rated. Often quoted as being as good as the top end stuff.

Have you ever stopped to consider that your Ping driver is also only worth £10? Have you seen how much they pay out in endorsements to top players compared to MD?
so what you are saying is the top pros ONLY use the equipment they do because they get paid to,interesting idea, when i was a electrical technician i used the best tools available to do my job,i could have bought screwdrivers from the pound shop they would have done the same job but as a professional i wanted the tried and tested best on offer, same as the top pros,if they thought they would win a major playing with a set of £150 MD,DUNLOP,BENROSS etc etc clubs don't you think they would all be clammering at the doors of SPORTSDIRECT on a wednesday morning, arms laden with LOCO drivers and DUNLOP TOUR balls, just because some mag has a few hackers hitting a few balls on a range then comparing the clubs means not a jot,how many people do you know get custom fitted for a starter set,as like i said that is what the likes of the named clubs are.

What I'm saying is...just because you have splashed out top dollar on a bit of kit that doesn't mean it is necessarily the best. Companies like Ping, TM, Callaway etc have to recoup MILLIONS of £'s a year to pay for all the pro's they sponsor. Where do you think that money comes from? It comes from mark up on their products.
All these clubs are made in factories in China and the Far East for very low unit prices, just because a driver costs £250 doesn't mean it's any good.

Id be careful wagering anything when it comes to clubs, they are only as good as the eejit waving them.
so your saying that the £10 MD driver is as good as my new PING one do you fancy a waiger??

MD wedges vary in grinds and finishes, I found the Norman Drew wedges to be very spin orientated, the Seve ones just look great though, especially the santander oil can. Vokeys are nicely finished but a little heavier to me.

My buddy's MD driver is every bit as good as my mizzy one, there wedges are becoming well renowned for spin and quality

Nothing wrong with it in my eyes, I very nearly bought st superstrong irons when I first started as I hit them very very well, much better than the more well known stuff

so the likes of MD etc spend millions of pounds every year on development, and use the same technology and materials as the more expensive ones, how many pros use the wedges you speak of say compared to say VOKEY,same goes for PUTTERS how many top pros use a MD putter compared to a SCOTTY,my argument is just because it does the same job doesn't make it the same thing.

Yup MD, terrible wedges... https://www.mdgolf.co.uk/press-reviews

Just because Titleist are a larger company (multiple times over), doesnt mean other companies cannot churn out great products.

I'm not looking to get into a big argument over this, I'm just pointing out some simple facts. The big names have to recoup massive amounts of money to cover their advertising and endorsement budgets, the MD's and Benross's etc of this world don't. If you are happy with the perceived performance increase that your £300 driver buys you over a £100 one then that's great, makes it money well spent.

All I'm asking is that you think about the simple economics involved.

It's a little bit harder in golf clubs, but for years many pro cricketers used bats made by smaller non-brand names and stuck their bat sponsor's stickers on. An england payer in theb80s showed me the bat he used and it wasn't the very famous brand he advertised, and he also told me a number of others doing similar, I thought that was revolutionary but was apparently very common

By the way the MD clubs are always very good value and very good performance; whether they match the top end stuff I'm not so sure
Although they did use stock shafts for a while that were the same as many top end clubs-can't remember which other than they were the yellows-orange ones

Proforce V2 shafts iirc though if you speak to a pro who has an account with MD, they will put pretty much whatever shaft in that you want.
A couple of years back I got an F3 wood with a grafalloy prolaunch red shaft. It went really well.
