Got the email on Friday that I have been selected to attend the Taylormade MCombination day. Sounds like it's going to be a great day. Club fitting, lesson with the Me and My Golf lads, a clinic from some TM Tour Pros, and 9 holes on the amazing Grove course. Can't wait.

Anyone else from the forum been invited along?

Do you get to keep the clubs you are fitted for?

Was down at The Grove for MCombination day yesterday and what an absolutely awesome day it was. Couldn't have been looked after better, everything was absolutely spot on. Started the day meeting the rest of the winners, having a bit of breakfast before our intro talk. Then we headed down to the range, which if you've not seen is just unreal, looked nicer than the fairways at most golf courses, was ridiculous.

We got warmed up on the range before splitting into groups - half getting fitted, other half getting a lesson from Piers or Andy. I started off with the fitting and it was such a good experience. The Taylormade chap was a great guy and couldn't have been more helpful. We started off on the hybrids and I tried out both M1 and M2 and I really liked both actually. M1 the more "better player" hybrid I would say, smaller, more compact head but felt great. Was getting an extra 15-20 yards with the Hybrid compared to mine, and a much nicer, flatter ball-flight. Then we moved onto the M2 which I actually preferred, especially the look of it, and was hitting it great. Definitely tempted to add one of those to the bag.

Fairway's much the same, tried both, plenty of shaft combinations, settled on the M1 in the end I think. I really like my XR though so would have taken a lot to persuade me to part with the cash for a new FW. So then finally we moved onto the Driver. Started off again on M1 and what a club. Tried out a few shafts looking to get the right spin profile. I tend to spin the ball really low so ended up in the HZRDUS Red shaft with the M1 set-up with the weights slightly fade-biased with the CG all the way back which helps with spin and also forgiveness. Tried the M2, but the big difference in noise just wasn't for me, was making my ears ring.

After the fitting, which took about an hour in the end, was great fun, I moved over to the lesson area of the range and had a lesson with Piers from Me and My Golf. Great lesson where we worked on a few things, mainly shallowing out my swing encouraging much more hip turn and then feeling like I'm dropping the club behind me as I start my downswing. A lot to work on but I feel if I can get that movement nailed it'll make a big difference to my swing. Was looking a hell of a lot better by the end of the lesson. Piers is a great guy as well, dead nice, easy to talk to and really knows his stuff. Was a superb experience.

Next we got a much needed rest after hitting balls all morning and got to see a Clinic from 2 Taylormade Tour Pros. We had European Tour star Jordan Smith and a rising star in his first year as a professional Guido Migliozzi. Watching the lads hit balls was remarkable. The ball flight, the noise and the distance was just crazy to see. They had a longest drive comp as well. Jordan stepped up, boom, 341 total. Guido followed, absolutely ripped it, 341 total. Brilliant. That was with a real stiff breeze into as well, they hit it absolutely miles!

We then had a break for some lunch, which I have to say, was bloody delicious before splitting out into groups again to get out on the golf course. I was grouped with a good lad Craig and Andy from Me and My Golf. Format was Stableford best 2 from 3. What an experience it was. Andy played superb, hit the ball a mile and made some superb putts. Weather wasn't amazing but made no difference, was still such an enjoyable experience on the course, and Andy was great fun to play with. We weren't expecting a lot as we returned to the clubhouse, the 7 points on the last gave us a small chance but didn't think we could win. Then, Mike read out the result at the end of the day, 44 points, we won it! I couldn't believe it, still can't believe it now. So Taylormade are going to be in touch in the next few days to organise sending me a metalwood of my choice that I was fitted for on the day, result! A superb end to a brilliant day.

Would like to thank all the guys from Golf Monthly for being so accommodating and making us all feel at ease, which, wasn't easy with all the cameras around. I'd also like to thank the guys from Taylormade for putting on an amazing day, to the Me and My Golf lads for being great fun and to The Grove for having us. What a day!

congrats and have a great time. GM and the teams they put together for these opportunities are super.

Great write up. Had several GM days at The Grove and they are fantastic days out. GM and the company(s) always pull out all the stops and the service at The Grove is superb as is the course. Food is lovely too. Enjoy the new sticks

Great write up Dan, the real value in these type of days for me is the benefit of all the knowledge, time and expertise of proper fitters. I'm sure most would happily pay for the clubs after a session like that - I know that I would.

Definitely. If I had the money I'd go full MCombination. The M2 Hybrid will be the next club into my bag, it's an absolute beast and looks fantastic. Really looking forward to getting the M1 Driver in the bag, was going really well on the range and giving me some good numbers once we'd dialled the weights in and like the hybrid, it looks awesome. I know it's not for everyone, but I love the white/black combination.

Glad you had a great day, gm provide excellent opportunities for folks and having been lucky myself in the past I know how good they can be.
Enjoy the new bat, hope it works for u. I watch andy and piers now and again and they seem good craic 😬
