Awful bit of news for Rory. Had a gut feeling that he was ready to come and dominate this year, especially with his strong finish at the links-esque US Open.

Throws it WIDE open for the likes of Spieth, Fowler, Garcia etc. Drama already here and it's two weeks away!

Sky have just reported that he is not ruling himself out.

I suppose if Tiger can play with a broken leg, surely Rory can play with a sore ankle!?

If it's requiring an airboot and crutches I'd be telling him that he's only 26, there will be future Opens at St Andrews and missing one may mean winning numerous others.

I'm betting he's already had a top notch foot/ankle sports ortho specialist look it over/scan the bejesus out of it, but I had one of these. It was after I went into a ruck a bit ambitiously then was returned back over the gain line by a couple of props who eat flankers like me for breakfast, using my ankle as a pivot. Took me at least 2-3 weeks to get rid of the limp let alone return to rugby.

Even given the fact that he's a top athlete with strict regimes etc I think a return to the highest level of his sport in two weeks is a bit ambitious.

Oh, and yes, I agree with FD, it's FOOTBALL Rory.

I imagine the fact that it is the left ankle, may limit his chances for the OPen. Depends how much pain he could stand.

Hopefully its not as bad as feared and the airboot etc is to protect it as much as possible.

Stupid that he thinks he may recover in time or that he played football. Surely not the later as injuries can happen anywhere so these accidents are going to happen and you can't avoid all activity just in case.
