Matts gone

Matts no longer required at my place - lesson tomorrow morning then hit the course in the afternoon - real golf is back - I can smell the season start :D

Captain's drive in in three weeks then the week after the clocks go forward, sure does smell like the season is on its way

 :funk:

thought the OP was about a person! you mean MATS!

Do you trawl the forum looking for stuff to pick up on?

We were dropping to the side at my place for a while think it finishes soon though. Although with ankle ligament damage it could be a while before I play again :(

I was never a fan of the fairway mats until the new club decided that they weren't required.. I'm not sure the fairways will recover from some of the hackers that have gouged huge holes in them. It doesn't matter if you replace them as the birds just overturn them anyway... Sad..:(

Anyway, on a more positive note, come on golf season.. I need some comps so I can start to attack my handicap..

I can smell the rain and damp , be awhile before its ready for normal play , last winter drag on for ages , this winter was very mild but was it wet

Only on Wednesday our course was starting to look like the new season was not far away. Played without much mud on my shoes or waterproofs.

Then came yesterday's heavy rain and back we go again. Although the weather people tell us this is the start of Spring, so far as golf is concerned I always look to the Masters as being the starting point.

Although just to remind me it is not to far away and to celebrate the start of Spring my annual subs statement dropped through the door this morning!!!

First comp of 2014 for me today.... cancelled as the back nine closed again. Big pairs event next Sunday but hardly holding my breath for that to be played given the forecast. No feeling of the season starting anytime soon

What a great day to play golf. Real feeling of spring about it. Played in a four ball better ball competition, and we didn't play badly, just holed nothing. Greens have been cut and rolled, and were amazingly true. I feel so sorry for those that can not get out on their courses.;)

Ha ha - realised I'd got that wrong when I was heading out the door - too late to edit now - My poor excuse is I've been doing some photos of houses for rent for the Ryder Cup and the guy who owns the company is called Matt

I know a Scandinavian guy called Matt. He's Finnish.

np, glad you took it in the manner intended. Mind if I ask what company/website for these houses- I have 2 friends with houses in Auchterarder and one has been offered an embarrassing sum to rent their place for 2 weeks.

Matt's company are http://www.scotlandgolfholidays.co.uk/, he's a footballer who plays for the team I shoot - used to play for Orient and Nottingham Forest - The houses I photographed were spectacular - one had a real car in the dining room.

Embarrassing sum as in low or high? I don't know what Matt is charging but people at my day job (I work in Perth so a good few of them live between Perth and Gleneagles) have been offered sums between £10 and £20 grand for the week

It was a beautiful day but as Homer says, comp cancelled due to the latest deluge of rain so we played the front nine twice. It was a glorious day and play well first time round, my putting was appalling but that is at least partly down to the greens being a little slow and bumpy. The 45 minute wait at the first tee before our second nine put me out of my stride and I couldn't really get into it 2nd time round. If we're down to nine again next weekend I'll only be playing 9 holes.

I don't know what forecast you're looking at but all the ones I can see are saying mainly dry from Tuesday. We should be OK for next week.
