So I had a matchplay tie to play on Sunday (with the deadline being Sunday) and it was medal day. Following advice on here I was not entering the medal (hadn't come across that rule and neither had most people attached to my club).

Anyway-

Due to play at 3 and the guy texts me at 12 saying that due to the weather we would have to reschedule as the course would be closed and the club would be ok with us missing the deadline. I called the pro shop even though I knew it would be open and confirmed it was open. I text the guy back and let him know and we confirmed we would meet at 3.

About an hour later I get a text saying just have the tie, I don't like playing in the rain.

In the end, I missed the medal as I couldn't arrange a last minute partner and didn't get my golf.

Disappointed in this, I don't like playing in the wind but I certainly wouldn't be cancelling a tie!

Congrats on making it through to the next round - when did the draw take place ? Why did you both wait until the last day ?

Struggled at the start of the month and worked late during the week. Some comps on at weekends so it was when it could be fit in.

Can't believe he just conceded.

Happens regulary - especailly when players cant get a date sorted early.

I get that it was late but from my perspective a date and time was agreed and the course was open therefore the tie should go ahead. It was raining but in my view it wasn't that bad and surely in Scotland golfers play in all conditions.

As I said I don't like playing in the wind because I hit a high ball and it affects me easier than other players. Wind gives opponents an advantage over me but I wouldn't try to rearrange the tie if the date is set.

You are through - i wouldnt worry about it now - the player didnt want to play in the rain so gave you the tie. Good news - you got through without getting wet and swinging a club.

It happens but at least you're through

I'm a bit surprised that your opponent said that the course would be closed though!

I think my issue is that with only a couple of hours notice I missed a game of golf. Also I missed the medal that I could've played in earlier on.

Nothing stopping you going out as a one ball and having a round ?

Downside to arrange your own matches. You won't be the first or last to encounter this, at least he let you know rather than just not turning up. Appreciate it's frustrating but unfortunately not an awful lot you can do.

I had to play my tie on saturday afternoon at 3 oclock. 25-30mph winds. Was no fun. I could have claimed the tie as the guy never put the challenge in the book and phoned me 4 days before the deadline. But i prefer to play the tie. Gave away 4 shots and won 5&3 so was happy with that.

At least you are through to the next round mate!

This is exactly the reason I choose where possible to play my matches as quick as possible, I hate going through or losing by concessions.

Happens quite regularly IMO, it was one of the reasons I stopped entering knockout competitions outside our club championships, people, phoning up a week before it's due to be played and saying I can only play on Thursday or Friday, etc etc. even after I had phoned them quite quickly after the draw and they don't return the call etc.
was becoming more hassle than it was worth.
I ink folk leave it to the last minute thinking they can use the time between the draw and the deadline to get more practice in.

This.... Or as above them not returning your calls then wanting everything to revolve around them. I tend to contact by text with three dates straight away.... That way you have made the effort, and I generally do it a week apart and on different days, one Saturday and two Sunday's as an example.

The best excuse I've heard was a leg of our winter ko and my opponent said he didn't want to play as showers were forecasted and he can't play in the rain as he wears glasses 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I asked why he had entered a winter comp..... He lost 5/4 on a dry day!
