Matchplay handicap query

Hi all

Played a friendly pairs match play at the weekend when a discussion arose on how the handicaps worked..... I've tried a few times to write out the scenario, but I'm making a complete hash of it. So I'll try and recreate the scoring:

Pair 1

P1 14hc
P2 21 hc

Pair 2

P3 16hc
p4 28hc


Hole 7, SI 1 Par 4.

P1 marks a 4
P2 marks a 4
P3 marks a 4
P4 blobs

Am I correct in thinking that P2 wins the hole as he gets shots off of both P1 and P3 as it is SI 1 ?

At the time I couldnt get my head around the fact that P3 loses his advantage over P1....because he's playing the player and not the course.

Hope that all makes sense, I've confused myself over and over and over again.

Matchplay everyone else takes shots off the lowest player so P1 here.

Player 2 gets 6 shots (90% of 21-14) on SI 1-6
Player 3 gets 2 shots (90% of 16-14) on SI 1-2
Player 4 gets 13 shots (90% of 28-14) on SI 1-13

So on SI 1 all 3 players would get a shot off player 1. So players 2 and 3 would both have 4 nett 3 in the match and halve the hole

From the above post:
