Matchplay cup games..love them

Played my 2nd matchplay society knockout cup game today and I won again am through to the quarter finals...was given 6 shots on him due to our handicaps....have been struggling badly again lately and dithered over whether to play the tie to save me from embarrassing and humiliating myself..but my PRIDE msade me have a go....what a difference I find compared to stroke play..I NEVER GAVE UP....It went to sudden death extra hole and I won it there..on the 18th tee I was behind and won the hole to take it to sudden death...a great game and the lead changed a few times....I didnt play dead well just quite decent...and to make it sweeter he was a Sunderland fan and I am Newcastle..get in man....

I much prefer matchplay and seem to play alot better.

As I see it, its kill or be killed. You only have to play better than the oppo. You do not have to shoot the lights out.

Well done. I have the Semi-final of our club matchplay this afternoon. Not that confident, but at least I will be getting 6 shots.

exactly..I was 2 behind after 9 then I pulled it round to lead by 1 until the 15th.....then I was behind until the 18th tee and won the hole to take it sudden death and then won the 1st hole....what a buzz the game gave me

Matchplay an in particular 4BBB suits me down to the ground especially if I have a steady (and patient partner). Played a club match at Maidenhead yesterday. I didn't play well but we won 3&2 and my unbeaten record is extended. My partner was steady and I came in at the start and around the turn.

I don't seem to have the killer instinct in individual matchplay and often get ahead on the back nine but can never seem to close it out. I still like it as a horror hole isn't the end of the day's competion
