Played in two single matchplay competitions this past fortnight.
First outing, society matchplay, 4 down after 6 not looking good. Then managed to win 7,8,9,10 & 11 to go 1 up and finally won on the 17th.

Tonight played 2nd round of our club matchplay-again started badly-again 4 down after 6. still 4 down after 9. Managed to get it all square with one to go and won on the 18th-i had to play brilliantly on the back nine to win-had 7 gross pars on the back nine.

So moral of the story lightening does strike twice. :D

Good shooting but I bet the oppo were as sick as the proverbial parrots. When I was younger my regular partner and I (I was 16 and he was 15 playing off 8 and 12 respectively) played two guys who were renowned match players and had regularly one gold letter board events in a friendly match.

We done them 8 and 7 and I shot a gross 70 (+2) and my partner shot a 72. I have never seen such dejected faces. The sweet thing was one of the guys was a tad obnoxious and I never enjoyed serving him when I was working in the pro shop so it was even sweeter. The funny thing was we lost the first! We were 7 up at the turn (we had 6 straight birdies between my partner and I) and won the 10th with a par.

I went out in -2 and my partner was -1 gross. Once the handshakes came on 11 we both relaxed and started to fritter a few shots while they started to play better and started to make a few putts. Funny old game

Remind me never to play you at matchplay RGS! do you care to share your secret of such great turn arounds? Doing it once is quite something but for a second time, you must have some sort of secret. What is it... poisoning the opponent when they reach for their mid round snack ;) ?

Theeaglehunter-nothing so drastic-i am such a nice guy i disarm them with my charm.

Delighted to win the first game as my opponent can lose the head a bit on the course--the odd club throwing incident.

Tonight was last yrs captain and a genuine nice guy.

Homer in the first game was receiving 2 shots-
last night was receiving 11 shots-playing against a Nine handicapper-i currently play off 20 but i am trying hard to reduce it. Personally i believe i can play to 15/16 but unfortunately have not played well enough in the weekly comps.
Playing very well in matchplay events either single or in the fourball betterball interclub competition. I enjoy the mano V mano combat.

How's about this for a comeback, it was during our annual Greenkeepers v Golf Club Secretaries match (better ball pairs) at Woodhall Spa on The Hotchkin course. Me and my mate were 4 down with 5 to play and managed to get it back to 1 down with 2 to play, on 17th they were both on the green within 15 feet in regulation. I was dead in a bunker and my mates drive was in the fairway about 120yd out and he only went and holed it for an eagle to make us all square. I have seen many things in all my years working on golf courses but I have never seen two men so destroyed as we walked to the next tee, we both hit OK drives into the fairway and they just topped theirs into the heather so it was a formality for us to clinch the last and take the match 1 up. Thats my greatest matchplay comeback and I dont think I'll be able to top it for a loooong while.

Oh and we also won as a team on the day so it was extra special, them Secretaries take some beating cos they nearly play as much golf as Pros ;)
