Matchplay 3 v 2

Ended up with 5 the other day. Any good matchplay formats for the above. In the past we have played the lowest 2 against the highest 3 . 1/2 handicap from lowest player. This is Ok if you have handicaps of say 3 ,7 12,13,17 but if all similar it is difficult for the 2.

Any thoughts please

You could play skins against each other or match play where the low handicapper plays for both teams.

Decide who is the least able player , being careful not to contravene the new equality laws. Club him to death and then play as a proper 4 ball better ball golf game.

The 4 lowest handicappers play 4BBB, while the highest h'cap follows behind on his own. Thsi will then give him some incentive to improve his game and get his h'cap down so that he's no longer the highest

Might be nice for the other people on the course not to be behind a 5 ball though..etiquette?

There is nowhere at our Club that states we cannot play in a 5 ball.

We are fully aware of Page 27 final paragraph of The Rules of Golf 2008/2011

I think i mean what HRC99 is saying to a point!

you play matchplay with the lowest h/c as a start point with regards to shots etc. who ever wins the most holes takes the winnings.

I didn't realise that. Just one of those things that I'd always took for granted because it's not something I've ever seen happen.

Average stableford points for each side for each hole. Hole carries over if a tie.

We followed a five ball last Sunday and certainly didn't get held up. Their combined handicap was less than 20 though.
