Having recently caught the bug I went out and treated myself to R11s Driver and 5 Wood. However I am looking to match the 3 wood to the set however was wondering is it important that I also match the shafts. My driver and 5 wood have aldila red eye stiff shaft. Would I require exact shaft or would ant stiff aldila shaft be good enough?

Depends what your after?

I have the same shaft in my driver and 4 wood but have a different shaft in my hybrid.

Mainly because I wanted a mid flight with my driver and fairway, but wanted a higher flight with the hybrid.

Aldila is the brand, all there shafts will have different profiles so if your looking to "match" then just getting the same brand is not doing that.

For me the improtant question is how did you come to stiff shafts? Were you fitted/measured for them?
If so and you know that stiff shafts are correct for your swing and the Red Eyes works for you then why not match.

It's important to try them though as the weights are also a factor. For example, I use a 74g Fubuki stiff in my 5w and I hit it lovely. I had the Fubuki 64g in my driver and couldn't get it to work enough. So the result is that I now have different shafts (all stiff flex) in my driver, 3w and 5w. Don't just accept that the same shaft will have the same result without trying them to prove/disprove the theory.

Your post would suggest that you dont.... The profiles of the Aldila shafts will all be different, flex aside.

If you want the same profile as you have then you have to get the same shaft.

As usual in the fitting area, nothing is absolutely certain.

However, if you get on well with the 5-wood, then it's more likely that you will get on with the same setup in 3-wood.

Driver is often different, as GreginFife's experience shows.

Always best to audition though.
