Hi all,

After a discussion with my friends in the pub and with good feedback from others, I'm thinking of organizing an informal match play league in the Glasgow area.

It would be based on a 2 man team and will be played to a format which everyone is happy with (greensome / best ball etc).

The idea is, say we have 10 teams. Everybody plays each other twice, one home and one away so ideally you would be partnered with someone from the same club but not essential. 3 points for a win 1 for a draw. I know a lot of you guys will already play this sort of thing through your club but if you don't, it could be fun. No set dates for the ties just when suits but a deadline of when it needs to be played by.

There would be an entry fee per team to go towards a prize which could be something like 2 nights at Formby hall with 2 rounds of golf etc.

I'm always keen to try new courses so this seems like a good (cheap) way. Anyway I just wanted to put it out there and see if anybody around would be interested.

Keep me informed and updated of any proposal. I would advocate better ball as it at least allows every one to play a full round.

I was thinking of ties played between April and August (1 a fortnight) so really looking for 10 teams although if I did happen to get more interest we could split in to 2 leagues and the 2 winners have an 18 hole playoff for the big prize. I suppose the more interest i get the better the prize.

Would you consider Ayrshire in the format

Just an idea right now to see how much interest I get so i would put it to all players to see how far they would be willing to travel. Bearing in mind I would think most games would be played at night through the week so people might not be willing to travel as far down as Ayrshire after a hard days work, but you never know.

I'll travel to play Bogside any day I can assure you! I'm actually Renfrewshire but I'm sure that we can all make travel plans if required.

Played it a few times and I'm friendly with Jim McKinnon, so I like it and nknow it well. Whats your waiting list time now? I'd love to join.

The waiting list is around 3 years at the moment I think, but will check as I am heading off for a few holes when HID returns. Have sent you a pm re a game.

Good good, spread the word, the more the merrrier.

As I said earlier thinking about kicking it of around April so will keep you all posted. Still plenty of time.

Dont you just hate winter!

Will do.

I suppose we could keep it open to anyone in central Scotland, say within an hour of Glasgow or however far people are willing to travel.

6 people? I thought we could muster up some more people than that from the forum. Come on all you central Scotland golfers.

WHERE ARE YOU? LETS BE AVIN YOU! :p
