Played in the Surrey 5's today against Camberley Heath at theirs and I'd imagine my oppo is still sat there wondering how on earth he got beat.
Stsnding on the first I dragged my drive left and it was touch and go as to whether it was OB on their practice ground. Stuck another down and promptly topped it about 20yds forward. Made the short walk to the provisional and hacked it into the heather about 30yds in front of me. My oppo had hit a fairly decent drive down the middle of the fairway so at this point (potentially) playing my 5th from the heather I gave up and wandered to the OB ball in the hope it'd clung on.
Miracles do happen and it was about a foot in bounds so thanking the golfing goods I stuck my 2nd straight into the nearest tree. Not the start to a match I'd hoped for however it's match play so regardless of how many I'm taking I can only end up 1 down. My third was a hybrid from 220yds, finally a decent connection and stuck it 15ft from the pin. 2 putts and I won the hole. I think my PP had seized up with all the waiting around and couldn't quite understand how he'd lost the first.
This is pretty much how the front 9 continued. At the turn I was 4 up! On another day I'd have been 7/8 down however a bit of luck and a red hot putter just kept me in the game. To be fair my oppo didn't take the opportunities he was presented with either.
We shook hands on the 16th with me winning 3&2. I've played a lot better in these matches and walked away on the wrong end of the result.
