Match play Vs Stroke play, why am I better at one at the moment?

Been playing shite recently in stroke play events 0.1 every time. Last Saturday shot 86 with 6 or 7 shanks from the middle of the fairway cost me at least 10 or 12 shots.

Played in one of the Nairn match play knockouts last night against a 4 handicap won 7 & 5 and was 4 under after 13 holes when we walked off. In the last round beat a 2 handicap 5 & 4. Of the 4 matches I’ve had so far I’ve not had to play past the 15th.

Can’t quite make it our and neither can any of my opponents???? Cos one of them watched me shank every ball I hit on the practice ground before that match! :D

I always feel that in matchplay you can relax a bit more, as an 8 on one hole doesnt ruin a card, it just maybe loses you the hole. An 8 in stroke can effectively ruin your card, so I think you can become tighter and less relaxed, in match play you just forget it and head to the next tee and rip one!

:)

I agree about being more relaxed. The last two guys I’ve played both have fantastic swings and hit the ball very well and because of this I’ve had no expectations from the games other than just to enjoy it.

being relaxed must have something to do with it, it's also easier to forget the last hole and get on with the next.

seems to be working so far, two weeks ago came back from 4 down to win 2&1, and last night (must be catching) won 7&5 - only lost one hole in 12
