Is it just me that thinks they look like a bunch of Painters and Decorators?

What should they be wearing? I think the bibs look alot better.

I think the Masters (Augusta) have their own rules etc about what is and isn't acceptable on their course. It means all the caddies look the same rather than the usual hotch-potch of gear they normally wear.

Seems fair enough to me.

I understand the reasoning behind it and agree uniformity is the best approach to keep things tidy, I just think they all like like they should either have a paint brush in thier hands, or be shackled together. :D

When Golf takes a persons appearance so seriously it just makes a mockery of dress codes if they cant find a smart form of dress for a caddy in the biggest game front.

I think they look scruffy, I dont see any other description that would fit in my book.

"Tiger talks with caddy 'Bob the builder' about his next shot, while Woosie chastises his caddy 'rodney'for getting luminous yellow paint all over his bag. :D

I like the tradition of it and the fact they do look the same even if it is some kind of twilight world B&Q ad. I do feel for them though once the temperatures get up as there isn't much they can do to keep cool

But to me these overalls are not tradition, they are a recent addition in the scheme of golf, I just think they could have created something a little tidier.

Initially Agusta supplied the caddies for the players. If I remember correctly they were all Negro and wore white overalls. This was in the days when the Deep South of America was very much still in the throes of White v Black.I don't remember when the players were first allowed their own caddies, but I think it was in the 70s. Before that you wouldn't have players like Tiger Woods or V. J. Singh playing.

I think that it 100% totally stinks.

Yes there is an argument that it is tradition, but I lean towards the argument that it is a crowd of pompous old farts wanting to keep their elitist little pecking order in place and making the caddies wear janitorial attire, keeps them in their rightful place in the eyes of said old farts.

I do wish you'd come straight out and say it..

It was a result of Jack Nicklaus insisting on his own caddy.
If its the tradition of keeping the then underclass of america in its place, it succeeded, not really a tradition that should be upheld in my view. its just so untidy and to some degree demeaning. What would be wrong with a smart white shirt, white slacks, green baseball cap? this would say more about respect for the caddy and agusta than a pair of baggy overalls that would not be allowed at most clubs around the globe I suspect.

They may not be the best uniforms but I'm all for them for caddies. Perhaps the PGA Tour are missing a trick here - official uniforms for caddies, with sponsors?

Yes, Clive. Until the 70s all the caddies were black and the players white. I think (?) Lee Elder was the first black golfer at the Masters.

Strange, without my mrs knowing anything about this post, she came in last night, sat down and said, what the hell are they wearing? They look like decorators.

I do think they look hideous, if they were green then they may look a bit better. But still overalls are for painting in, not strolling one of the worlds best looking golf courses.

They are hideous, its a throwback to the old slave days of the south.

I agree with HNJ suggestion.

The caddies according to colin Byrne Goosens old caddie are poorly treated at Augusta, unlike other tour events. It appears the Masters organisers like to keep the "hired help" in their place.
