Absolutely gutted for the guy.

On the fringe of the 18th green some 25-30ft from the hole with 2 putts to bag The Barclays plus top spot on the the Fed Ex. Downhill hill putt which requires him simply to send it on its way down the slope but he inexplicably guns guns it 10 feet past. The weak 2nd putt back was inevitable.

Subsequently loses the play off on the 18th to Matt Kuchar.

Martin played a similar shot 1st time round and was sooooo unlucky that his ball just went too far and didn't come back to the hole. Kuchar just got the rub of the green. Martin kept his nerve 4 so long.was gutted 4 him as he has played somne gr8 golf this year.

He has definitely had a more consistent season this year and seems to finally believe he deserves to be out there. It was a shame that he blew it in normal time but he didn't do anything to lose the play-off but was beaten by a good shot

I found it interesting listening to him after the event. He says he had the line right for the first putt on the 18th, he just miss judged the speed comming down the slope.

He also said he'd rather do what he did every time, race it 7 feet past that lag it down leaving a 3 footer down the slope for victory.

I think he was trying to convince himself more than us, he played well but really blew it with a couple of disasters on the front 9 then got it back with a birdie on 17 only to lose it again on 18! And Greavesy thought football was a funny old game!
