When I first started playing many years ago, I used to go to the local municipal course in Nelson. It was very new and was a typical muni, not the best of course, loads of staked tees as you would expect with a new course.
I hadn't played it for 40 years, but today played in an open there, more out of nostalgia than anything, but what a surprise, the course was in great condition, all the once staked trees are now 30-40 feet high and really define the holes, additional water hazards have been added, and the greens were very good. with it being high above the town its was always suspect to being windy but it has developed into a quite tricky little course and I really enjoyed playing it despite being in a terrible run of form and it only cost me £7 too.
Its well worth a visit.
