Im about to buy a new marker pen to mark my ball during the coming season. So in the vein of one of Markgs post.

Which should i get?

Ive heard black will make the ball go further, but i like blue.

Or should i wait and get custom fitted for one?:rofl:

Deffo Sharpies, but whatever you do make sure you mark them absolutely symmetrically then line them up perfectly on the tee or you will cause a slice/hook.

And Black is deffo longer.

After three trackman sessions me and my pro discovered some seriously overlook technical results.

If I makes with a fat tip sharpie the weight of the ink kept the flight lower and the spin down, this is my preferred marker for windy links courses where spin is a no no.

On the reversal if you mark it with a fine tip sharpie like you get with a tin cup the spin went through the roof, but it didn't stop there. Although spin was up we found that lighter colours such as red, green and orange produced more side spin so was great for shaping the ball on dog legs and so on.

Hope this helps Patrick.

Great info Baz, will bare that in mind:thup:

Where should i stand on the tee when i mark my ball, or should question be aimed at SILH in another post:ears:

Avoid blue Steadtler markers. The red and green are great but the blue rubs off and smears even after drying for 24 hours. :D

Nothing beats a Sharpie though. I saw all the pros at the Irish open used them, not sure if a handicap golfer can use them though. Maybe avoid the ultrafine ones because they aren't as forgiving.

I should add we also tested retail issue against pro shop issue, quality was rather disappointing, on the retail ones they would wear off after about 25 hits, this is ok but if you have marked your ball with a fat tip to reduce spin and lower flight, half way round you would experience a totally different ball

Also, I was advised by my pro that the pro shop release have a neutral lie angle, be very very careful if you struggle with a strong grip as the different lie on retail issue can promote a strong grip within the golf swing.... But on the flip if you suffer with a strong grip pro shop release sharpies can neutralise your grip.

What size you thinking of? The smaller ones can be difficult to write/draw accurately with but the bigger ones can be too thick.

The choices are staggering and I would definitely take a few old pinnacles in to practice with before you decide.

I use a pink sharpie to go match my pink castle tees.

Any blokes who find one of my stray balls usually returns them as they would find it too embarrassing to use them

Don't practise on pinnacles.
They are so hard that they will blunt your sharpie

Might have to try a few, maybe think about a custom fit, will take my old one to check on the numbers.

I quite like the smaller headed type so could shape it a bit better, but at the end of the day i might have to go with forgivness after all i'm not a pro and there will be days when i might struggle with connection;)

Only Green for me... Cus I like to have some 'rub of the green'... I need all the help I can find..
