Hi guys, many of you have seen my pretty cake and commented, so thank you very much. Also thanks to those who have passed on their good wishes through the thread in OOB.

My long suffering girlfriend has paid for a night in the above hotel with me playing some golf on it too. Both on the Friday and Saturday. I just wanted some comments on the course and the hotel. Mainly about whether it's hilly or not. (the course obviously)

Thanks

Sneds, you got a good one there pal!!

I played Manor of Groves last Summer as part of a large society do which I was invited to through work. It is a good course, but one that I would say was made for societies i.e some open bits, wide fairways in places and not too hilly (although there are some ups and downs)

Saying that, I started on the 10th tee (Par 3)which as about a 150 yard carry directly over a large pond - it also doubled up as nearest the pin!! Needless to say, first swing of the day ended in a watery grave

The 11th and 12th are nice holes winding through some trees and then it opens up a bit. Be warned though there is a hole that has the main route into the car park all the way up the right hand side so wait for a clearing if you are prone to a slice :D

You should have a good time and the facilities looked good - I guess there is a gym/spa for your girlfriend?

Enjoy!!

happy birthday, havent been there. but would advise if you are there for two nights. i would pace myself its not a race. i would start slow and keep up with your opponent. the main thing is to enjoy yourself.the second day, well thats different, i would speed things up and try and finish early. totally selfish but it is your birthday. now lets talk about the golf :D :D

Hey Sneds, Happy B`day.

I have played the MOG a few times as it just around the corner from work.

Not a bad course, some good birdie opportunities but also a few holes waiting to give you a kicking.

Definitely a course of two nines, the original 9, closest to the hotel is quite tight and tree lined, the second 9 which was built a few years later is a little more open and forgiving.

Have a good time, just don’t venture into nearby Harlow on the Friday night unless you have had your inoculations :D

It's been a couple of years since I played it.
As I recall there are a couple of quirky features, like the trip through the farmyard between front and back nines.

long 18th c600 yards, start on one hill, finish on another - watch out for the tree lined ditch between the two.

SHK, yeah she'l be in the spa whilst I'm out playing golf. Golf certainly isn't for her, she may get some dirt under her nails...

I don't usually commentate on my rounds of golf, usually because they're remarkably uneventful. I shall break the habit for these two rounds, so look forward to an update tonight and another one tomorrow!

Steve, yeah I looked at the website and you're right, the 18th is >600 yards, planning to hit 6 wedges up to the green at the moment.

Thanks to those that have played it, hearing about the course has made me look forward to it even more.

I won't bore you with details. Course in quite poor condition. I played like a donkey. Imagine an okay drive, an inaccurate iron to the green, chip on and two putts and apply to every hole. 92 disappointing.
