I'll make a starter for ten - 10th April - we hear of the 3 days paid volunteering the Tories have said 15million employees should get a year. Just like that - and legislated for - not just discretionary for the employer.

So many holes; so many cost impacts for the employer. and so many impracticalities and logistical problems for the employer and charities, But at a cursory glance it sounded a great idea - 3 more days off work and paid to volunteer and help as I wish? What's not to liok?

And so I'll offer three days of my time to my church or my golf club (no mention of my volunteering having to go to a charity) - and it doesn't cost them or me a penny. Doesn't sound like volunteering to me as volunteering tends to involve some sacrifice on my part. But what the heck. Great idea. That's does it for me. Vote Tory.

Though just in case it doesn't make it past the bosses I shan't hold my breath waiting for it to materialise - you never know.

I am an employer. Are the govt going to cover the cost of this? Nope. Effectively another tax on business as we are paying people and getting nothing in return.

I think there seems to be a scatter gun approach to this election where policies are being made up on the hoof rather than thought through and planned. It seems a follow up to the debacle of the last few days before the end of the Independence election where promises where made all over the place. A really poor time for politics.

I believe it is targeted at companies with over 250 employees
So no difference for small business or the self employed
Or Scout Leaders like myself who already donate a massive amount of time and do it freely and without seeking reward.

Bear Grylls for PM :)

Apparently about 15 million of us already give of our time freely volunteering (though I'm rather sceptical of that figure and what it might cover) - in any case you sir, are one of that 15million. And so what the Tories propose will mean that you can get paid by your company to take 3 days off for Scout camp - when previous you sacrificed some of your own holiday.

Will never see the llght of day - and if it did all of a sudden I can imagine employers cutting their employees holiday entitlement by three days less holiday.

I put this one down to cynical electioneering guff.

The Tories seem to think that if 'The Vow' worked they can feed the public any sort of nonsense.

Both Labour and Tories seem to be making it up as they go..........nothing costed properly and no information of where the money is coming from.

Desperation.

So if you volunteer and work for someone who employs 249 people, unlucky, but well done for volunteering!

Wonder if those on zero hours contracts count in number of employees.

Besides - paid volunteering...?

Anyway - it's a 'make ya feel good towards the Tories' soundbite. And they are all at it. It's total and utter nonsense and demeaning for senior figures in the parties to be spouting such rubbish and when pressed shamelessly and without embarrassment restating the promise as being absolutely sensible and reasonable - subject to consultation. Oh aye - once they realise it guff there's always that caveat finding it's way in.

Labour and Tories? The SNP are masters at making non costed policies and making it up as they go along.

You really are a joke!

The SNP don't matter in Westminster if Labour and the Tories can, or choose to, ignore them. So actually for the rUK and the outcome of the GE what the SNP say or promise is rather irrelevant - but what Labour and the Tories promise isn't.

trying telling ms sturgeon that, she appears to believe she will 'reign in' any Labour leader and make them do what she tells them

Getting to the stage when all these promises are guff and desperation to get votes. None of it will become law. Have no faith in any of the parties at the moment

Pretty much sums it up for me.

There are one or two instances where I'm prepared to believe them, but not many.

In living memory, I believe this has to be the worst collective lot of potential leaders of the nation we are being asked to choose between.

As a Scot it's a double whammy, as I have to....well, I suppose I don't have to....listen to the claptrap that's being spouted up here as well.

Indeed - but we all know that NS can say whatever she likes - but if the Tories and Labour choose to ignore her - and that is in their gift - then there is nothing she or the SNP in Westminster can do about it - other than cast their votes in any division as they so choose. Of course NS will talk up the influence the SNP will (could) have - but then she doesn't really need to as the Tories are doing that 'talking up' for her.

Remember the Big Idea or was it Big Society? Forgotten now.

Ah yes - the Big Society. Apparently according to Michael Gove this voluntary thing is not The Big Society - what it is something that encapsulates The Big Society. See the difference. Hmmm.

This idea clearly isn't a bad thing - I just don't see it coming to pass. It's really not that different from giving you another three days paid leave - and who is to govern what I do with these three days? So for instance I'd use them to do some general maintenance on my church fabric - we're a charity after all. Is that the idea?

rUK ?!?

Hasnt that saying been confined to the archives - no such place -there is UK and each seperate country

I find this whole Tory 'touchy feely' thing quite disconcerting.
Totally against their core values....a bit like the Greens coming out to say that, actually Trident is pretty cool.

Warning to English and Welsh Tory, Labour and Lib/Dem voters......remember 'The Vow'.
