I went along this morning, I didn't know what to expect as I had not been to a golf show before. I tried a few new clubs including a L$D Brassie, an 18 degree lofted club that hit really well both teed and not. I was really tempted to buy one but something prompted me to ask if it was a legal club, to be told that "we are awaiting R&A approval".

As for the show itself, I was a bit disappointed, too many stands prompting golf breaks and golf club membership, and a very big AG presence, if I wasn't to see what AG has to offer, I only have to go to the local branch. There was not a great detail of representation form the major club makers. I did get the ticket free though so I cant really complain.

I've now delayed going as I wasn't seeing any self promotion from any of the major club brands I follow on Twitter, which I thought unusual, no disrespect to those brands attending as its no doubt costly to exhibit but it has come across as a lot of fringe brands with training aids, golf holidays, some trick shots and demo's along with AG being the major brand, which as you state can be visited in almost every major city and towns across the country.

Its a bit far to travel to be disappointed so I've been waiting for some feedback from the 1st day and I haven't read any yet anywhere :(

Golf shows are OK. A good excuse to have a walk round checking out some gear, grabbing a steak sandwich and entering some competitions. The free golf vouchers can be handy as well.

Hi all went to the show yesterday, looked a bit like it was not fully set up AG offered advise and tried Wilsons offerings which went well. Highlight for me was talking to the owners of Bentham golf club where I played last year. I urge all to go if you, and if you live local for £440 a year its a positive bargain. Should you go to the show, yes and watch the demos and the trick shot.

Off there tomoz , despite the negative feedback so far I am looking forward to my lesson by Rick shiels and co!

was there any free golf vouchers on offer or just the normal name in the hat job?

oh any special show deals in the AG shop?

Taaaaa

It was the same last year but with express golf instead of AG, all major brands had full fitting kit there along with fitters but you book through the retailer.

Have a great lesson maybe you'll make GM YouTube channel...

I find most of these shows the same. Been to quite a few and it seems to be AG driven and lots of stands flogging holidays or tat and only a handful of chances to try anything decent (usually after a long wait). Some have live display/appearances which are usually entertaining. I wouldn't be rushing to one again soon

Got a pair of freebie tickets, so going to have an early dart in with the wifey.

Never been to one before, so looking forward to having a looksie round, but also got dinner planned at my cuz's place. Mmmm foood.

Think I might have steak.

Or a burger.

Or home made pizza.

Not hard to see where my priorities lie....

Let me know how you get on with the lesson, tempted to book one with him the next time I'm up in Manc land.

Yep, didn't think it could ever happen but it in our own hands now.

I wouldn't take anything from yesterdays game as all you did was rob 3 points with a missed penalty, an own goal and not very convincing stats, I suppose every dog has its day but for me I like to see wounded animals put out of their misery :smirk:

Will do mate :)

looks like your boys may pull of the great escape too

Saw you having your lesson this morning Matt. Couldn't make out what he was saying to you though, but looked pretty good.

THe guy doing the short game seemed very good, lot more on technique rather than gimicks.

Bought myself a new polo (nike) and some ball marker stamp things, stuff that I was looking at getting anyway.

Glad I went, but also glad that I got free tickets in. Think I would have felt short changed if I'd paid to get into what is mainly a sales room.

Lesson was spot on and eventually worked out what he was trying to do! Rick was awesome and very patient with me!
I did not feel uncomfortable once and never even noticed people were watching lol! My other half was getting a short game lesson from his colleague and the video will be on YouTube soon I guess, she enjoyed it too :)

regarding the show it was not very good (sorry) feel it's gone backwards, there was not even a retail store to browse only a little booth ( no higher than my downstairs loo) selling some cheap men as ladies clothes.

imho it will need a massive revamp for next year and it must include all the major manufactures as most of them were not here this time :(

such a shame really as the north ofhave the best and most passionate golfers in the country ;)

Drove over to Manchester Golf Show Saturday, one word Dissapointing.
To many stands selling Holidays, club memberships and other non golfing stuff IE a set of kitchen Knives.
Just glad Ticket was free.
Very few main golf retailers there and no fashion stands other than the guy with the sale on.
Only saving grace for me was Scott on the Wilson stand who was great.

Been to golf shows before and have been disappointed. I wrongly assumed that there would be lots of discounts to be had on the day and manufacturers handing out freebies. Would only go if I had free tickets in future.

I was meant to go, even had a lesson booked which would of at least made it a worthwhile trip. But work didn't let me finish in time, not to unhappy by the soundings.

You would think, it's once a year, it should be great! Sort of thing the Americans would smash. I'm disappointed and never even managed to get there.
