Man down.....

unlucky Robin
on a plus the Blues win the prem so not all bad and you will be back in good time to play many a round in the future.

Chin up fella

if you have to give up and have any cheap gear for sale I might be tempted ;)

Flippin eck Robin! Knew it was a bad one but... double ouch.

No need to stay away from golf - you can caddie for me...;) 10% of course.

Beer's on me next time buddy.

Best make a full recovery Robin and not risk further complications by rushing it. I do wish you a speedy recovery though!

It's not often the old git talks sense but he does here. :D Don't push it and risk making it worse, not only this year but in years to come. All the best with it for a quick recovery mate, keep us posted.

Any idea what the latest prognosis for a return would be. How would putting etc be affected once the therapy started. Could you do that or is that going to be too much as well?

I think I'm looking at 3-5 months before I could, or be allowed to swing a club!

When I take the removable splint off it all feels OK, although the thumb is stiff and I can't bend it, it doesn't restrict me in any way, its the splints to keep everything firm to allow the tendons time to strengthen and repair which is the issue, for me if I had a choice I'd tell them to cut the bloody thing off, it would be easier all around, in fact, where's my knife....

Here's an idea Robin.....
Get chipping one handed....works for some.
And putting
You can keep a bit of sharpness while you're laid up.

Speedy recovery.

Looks nasty - hope the road to recovery is speedy but just remember better to get it 100% again than puh and give you problems later.

I know I would struggle missing a chunk of a season but golf will be there when you get back.

Letter came yesterday to go back to the hospital on the 12th May, not sure why, they said last time "see you in a month" as that was how long I was told to keep this latest splint on after I had the stitches removed

Don't want to get hopeful only to be knocked back, without a cumbersome splint it doesn't restrict me in any way but I do get the odd sharp pain similar to an electric shock when the thumb bends slightly by accident.

Could my physio be starting in 2-weeks, and if so, how long does it take for tendons to repair and strengthen? Anyone had first hand experience of a similar injury?

3-5 months was muted when I initially went in, so from point of injury that's a possible mid-July - mid-September :(

Despite the jokes and comments on here and your own frustrations and impatients, don't rush it. Get it 100% right even if you lose the summer golf. Get fit and stronger and start slowly with the short game. Some time out might recharge the batteries and rest may do the swing some good and you can get some winter golf (weather permitting) and be back and firing next year.

Probably not what you want to read but there has to be an air of realism. If it goes great and you get Autumnal golf in then happy days but do too much and more damage and then you'll be laid up again regardless. Either way I really hope you get it sorted and back soon. Forum meets won't be the same!!!!!!!

Back from my hospital appointment and have come away with my 3rd different styled splint :( This one has to stay on continuously for the next 4 weeks, I only take it off to do some hand exercises 4 times a day  and to rub some cream into the scar tissues 4 times a day also.

I'll now stay with this physio lady throughout the rest of my treatment which she estimates will be another 6-8 weeks taking me into the 2nd week of July, that being 12 weeks in total at that point since sawing through my thumb :(

This now takes everything out I had arranged for June, which I expected but now I must accept that the start of July is out also so I have got to cancel my trip to Close House cry.gif

My first realistic target will be Cooden, I have a guest house already booked and as I like the area I really hope I can make that, if I do and I fare OK, then hopefully I will still be fit enough for Gainsborough but with not swinging a club for what will be over 3mths at that point, I will have to see how everything holds up.

The next 6-8 weeks are key, 4 in this new splint and then 4 without a splint doing gentle hand movements and nothing too strenuous as to not rupture the tendons which will still be weak after the surgery.

Thanks for all the well wishes and advice, I haven't done anything golf related yet, not sure if I will TBH, I think I'll find it too frustrating if I go to the club or a range, think its best to just sit it out, so I've booked some holiday time down Camber Sands.
