After having made a few swing changes in search of a more consistant strike I have some worrying results. I have found a more consistant strike, which is what I set out to achieve, the only way that I found I could do this was by slowing my swing speed. As a result I have lost over a clubs worth of distance, e.g. I am now hitting a 6 iron when before it was a 7. Is there any way that I can get this distance back whilst maintaing consitancy of strike?

It's probably just a case a grooving your new swing until it becomes 2nd nature and youre really confident with it. Then I expect you will be more positive and the distance will creep back in.

The consistant strike is the major achievement, don't worry about having to use an extra club, as the others have said the distance will come back if you wern't over hitting in the first instance.

Consistancy is key.

I wouldn't be so sure. :(

I did the same as you last year. I wreckon my swing speed was about 95MPH when I first started, but my striking was sooooo poor!

I slowed everything and concentrated on tempo, I lost about the same as you, (a club) My swing is grooved and I havn't gained anything back. I now swing at 85MPH, I guess we wouldboth have to start swinging faster again to get it back.

More Club head speed, more ball speed, (should be) more distance.

I think a 140 7 iron at your age is perfectly acceptable. Its never about how far but about how many. If the swing changes you are making (I presume under professional guidance) is part of a bigger picture then I'd stick with it and just club up. Surely once the new swing in ingrained distance and accuracy will go hand in hand.
