I'd heard of - but not played in - the Daily Mail Foursomes, but not this one.

I was lucky enough to be asked to be a part of our squad for the Mail On Sunday competition this year. I've played team golf before and loved it but can't play in that any more because of work, so I jumped at the chance of playing in this one.

We had our 1st round last Sunday, and with home advantage being massive we eased through to the second round.

I'm still trying to get my head round how I won my game though!
I beat a 5hc 5&4, and he one putted 11 out of the 14 holes that we played!!
Not all tap ins either, he must have made at least 4 outside 10'.

Anyone else playing in it this year?

Not playing in it (unless we get absolutely desperate) but organising it for our club. We played our sister club last weekend and scraped through 3-2. It's an excellent format enjoyed by all who play in it. We had a good year last year, reaching round 6 or 7 (can't remember which) but came to grief away at the home of English Golf.

I was due to but the first game was cancelled due to the course being closed - we couldn't make the re-arranged date so the dream ends here.

Played it for a few years now... Nice friendly competition played in good spirits from my experience although I'm sure there's some horror stories out there. Got through to the national finals one year (long time ago now I think about it) which was a great experience although disappointed to not get through for the trip abroad :( :D

Got through against some nice opponents on Sunday so roll on round 2...

Can I ask what the format is for the competition?
Is it a scratch competition?

Teams of 5 playing singles matchplay with full handicap allowance (max 18). If the match is tied at 2 1/2 each, the final pair go out again for sudden death.

Played in it last weekend and already been knocked out !!!!! And we had home advantage!!!!. Truly stuffed up the last to lose my match 1 down :o. Good luck to those still in it.

We played our match in the first round the Sunday before last, we won 4-1, lucky we had such a good win as our last player out retired hurt with a damaged knee half way round. So we would have lost if it had finished 2.5 2.5

I play in ours - regulary play against Fundys lot - and again we have been drawn against them - first round this weekend but can't play

Yup played last week away from home , frozen greens which made it interesting.
Went through on 19th extra hole, our last guy off 1 hit a stonking drive and pitched to 4 foot whilst oppo flew the green and then two putted leaving our guy two for it but drained the birdie putt.Asked our guy what he had for pitch, 77 yards which meant he'd hit his drive 310 yards, not bad for Winter eh ;)

...at the home of English Golf.

Always thought that was a rather pretentious, or at least inaccurate, description/title! Home of the EGU, certainly. But not 'English Golf' per se!

While there's certainly justification for describing St Andrews as 'The Home of Golf', I don't believe the same concept really exists for 'England'.

Well it does have the headquarters of England Golf (or EGU as you insist on still calling it) and England Golf runs amateur golf in England. So why can't it be called the home of English Golf?

I played in it last year, not in our team this year (ours is picked based on performance in the ko comps/club champs the prev year). Think theyre on 3rd date due to weather and have to play whatever this saturday

That's right - we have booked ours just in case but should be ok this weekend

Played our 2nd round game today away at a course that 3/5 of us had never seen before, and managed to win 3.5-1.5

Chuffed is an understatement!

Only 9 more rounds to go! :)
