For my sins, have agreed with the Mrs that my next project is to make a magnetic blackboard for the kitchen. There are couple of reasons. The fridge has become too cluttered and need to move stuff off it. A wipeable board will be a good thing to have for messages, phone #s, my to-do job sheet etc. We have a sizeable area that we can use for it.. about 80x2000cm that we can play with.
So looking for ideas.

1) I have heard about 'magnetic paint', but seen mixed reviews about it. Any experience with this?
2) My only concern with blackboard is that use of white chalk releases a bit of dust which is not the best for a kitchen. So might be looking at using something else where i can use a marker pen.

All suggestions/ideas welcome

Sure you can just buy these magnetic message boards from that stationary chain or online. Already made in various sizes etc, just need to hang them up

Please don't use magnetic paint. Useless at best! Message boards (plain, white marker, blackboard etc) that are magnetized are not difficult to find as Slab stated. I have used magnetic sheeting in the past (comes in a roll, sticky back peels of and adheres to a board if you have it). Works just OK. Hold on a 2, 5, 10p coin etc. Anything heavier is dodgy.

Fab.. i was considering the magnetic paint. It had mixed reviews.. so your input just shot it down.

another option i read somewhere is to use galvanised steel not stainless steel currently at Wickes for about 5 quid.
