Hey everyone I need your help to determine what I do with the forum pages in the magazine moving forwards. Now we are into forum meet season I normally write the main bit of copy focussed on the most recent and largest forum meet.

The issue is with the advent of KOKs all the main meets are qualifiers and they are all right on top of each other. I think my options are
- to pick out a single meet each time OR
- produce an article based on the most popular or interesting thread from that month and then ask to do a dedicated page on all the KOKs qualifiers

There could be another option I've not considered so I'm all ears / eyes if you've got any better ideas.

Would be great to hear from you on what you want to see in the magazine. Thanks

Spread them out over the next year when you have a slow month?

OR

Do a couple of big ones then a feature (or two) at the end of the summer (or year) wrapping them all up?

TBH mate, there are that many forum meets now (which is a good thing), that you've got no chance of covering them all.. Just pick a few big ones and cover those. For the rest of the time, pick a good thread and highlight that.. People do love seeing their forum names in the mag (not me obviously, I'm much too cool for that sort of thing ;) )

I know the problem. In my day doing the pages, there were far less meets and spread out across the season. I can see how it's an issue and you have two choices. Provide a very brief synopsis of each one which would seem to dilute it or spread it out for a few months in the run up to the final. Could MH not give an extra couple of pages specific to this event but that would be like winning the lottery!

More pages for the forum - 2 at least!!!

Afraid we aren't going to get any more pages so we can chalk that one off! Homer is right when I first started doing this there was normally one big forum meet a month. These were spread across the UK and it was pretty equitable.

Now I have three or four taking place in the same window of time. All are a similar size so how do you fairly differentiate between them??? I also think it's a nice way to recognise the efforts of the meet organisers.

How about a dedicated section, website, blog or even new section on forum that the orgainisers, or someone else there, at any of the meets can put a few photos and a bit of detail, results etc together for others to read.

The forum could then vote on the best or you decide which one goes in the mag.

That way we all get to read a dedicate piece on the different meets.

When is the final (save me looking). I guess the Southern, South West would fill the next issue (not sure if any have gone before those two. Maybe do two a month and put a big piece in a month later to cover all of the regional qualifiers. Not idea but best compromise I could think off

I'm afraid you can't do it fairly. Pick the one with the best write up and pictures so you have the best content for the page. Then , if you can, try to do it cover a different part of the UK each month to spread the love a little bit.

Just my opinion of course but it's a difficult task and I think you, along with those before you, do a great job

It's a nice idea what I worry about is people's willingness to write about meets (it's hard enough getting results and photos) and whether voting would become a bit political? Please keep the suggestions coming though. I know there's a solution out there :)

Unfortunately at the moment there aren't any write ups. I pull copy together from the posts people put up after the event. Generally I pick out (relentlessly badger people for) the result, a couple of anecdotes and how tough the course was playing.

I take your point about it being impossible to be fair but this is my dilemma. I don't know how good an event was until after I've got all the information about it. To get the information I often need to tease it out of people and do a similar thing to get photos.

If as a matter of course someone always posted the full event results on the thread and anyone who took pictures put them up on the thread as well - that would make my life so much easier as I could then have a look at the content and try to pick the best one.

Come up to Alwoodley in April and then all your problems will be solved as I and everyone who is going all know that it will be the best meet

.............. and you will get a warm welcome from us up north :D

I'd love too But doubt the Mrs will be overly keen. One of the things I hate most about being in Ipswich is that we are blooming miles from everyone! And we've got very few great golf courses!

Are you promising me lots of great content, results and photos then? ;)

I could have easily done a write up for the Southwest meet at Burnham but unfortunately
it didn't meet your criteria you wanted.
The results are on the page in the AAG section.
I took some photos but I didn't get everybody as again I didn't think the meet reached
your criteria.

How about have a report on the South meet plus little snippets from the others in March

Then next month have a report from the North Meet plus the Scotland meet and also the final ?

Just ask all organisers to try and get some decent picks and a short report from there events,
Then maybe publish a few photos from various meets and pick 1 or 2 reports depending on quality.
So each event could get a few words and a photo or just a photo.
