Macdonalds Hotel and Golf The Portals Cheshire

yes played there last year on both the 2 18 hole courses and the 9 holer courses are very challenging and involve some hills i would invest in a buggy but do not order any fish and chips from the hotel menu as i did it came with 6 chips and a fish no bigger than 5 inch and cost me £11.95

All decent courses but the premier is better (the one away from the hotel). As for eating the rising sun and black swan in tarporley are good as is christianos for Italian.

Played the championship course a fair few times. Plenty of room so you can let rip off the tee on most holes, the greens are always in great condition, all in all a pretty good, enjoyable course.
The par 3 14th will get the heart racing!

I have played it a few times and it's great. THe hotel and spa are very good too.

Snelly.

Yes Hotel is pricey so bring sandwiches and a few slabs of ale :)

The courses are lovely - really liked them

So is this hotel chain recommended? as i was thinking of going up to the hotel/course they have at peebles and staying for a couuple of nights.

I would recommend Macdonalds but they not cheap.Stayed at Peebles Cardrona and preferred the Chester Portal one.Cant comment on the course as went and played 4 miles away at Innerleithen, much cheaper.

I played the championship course last summer and it's a cracking course. But for a weekend stay I'd rather go to carden park which is not far from portal.

What they said . . . .better facilities and better courses imo. Also, if you want to drive a little further down the A49 then Hawkstone Park is a great venue for a mini golf break.

Played the Championship course a few times & absolutely love it, its always in very good condition but not overly tricky, its also been very quiet every time we played (greens are quite slow but very true).

Found it a long walking but short playing course if that makes any sense (we normally use buggies & play the 9 holer as a warm up first).

Haven't stayed in the hotel but food in the bar was good & Chester is a great night out but may be a mission to get a taxi back from.
