be of a shock to me, that they are very similar (assuming you have a good swing and lowish spin numbers naturally and do not need to adjust the driver at all)

Would have thought TM would have made M2 worse.

Anyone tried the two side by side, any comments?

Well by next week there will be some forum members that will have tried both. I guess if you have a very settled swing and game and get similar performance out of them both you'll go for the M2 and save yourself £100. But if you are improving or you get better results from the adjustments on the M1 you might want to splash that bit extra so you can optimise set up now or adjust with your coach as you improve.

Not sure why you think TM would want to make the M2 worse than the M1though!

Agree with Tiger, who on earth would expect a company to make one driver deliberately 'worse' than another. All they are doing is trying to cover all the bases. So you have the all singing all dancing fully adjustable model for those that can get the full benefit from that. And a less adjustable model that is defaulted to the more forgiving CG placement for those that will not really get the full benefit out of all the adjustment. Which I would argue is most amateurs really. So it ain't about one being worse than the other, it's about the punter finding the one that they will get the most value from.

The only issue I have really is releasing the version that is arguably more suited to most golfers a couple of months after the more expensive and of course heavily hyped M1. Plus the M2 comes after Christmas which I expect is a major purchasing time for golf equipment. Seems to be more aimed at the timing of the PGA show in Florida than anything else. If they would have released them at the same time and explained the differences then I'd have respected them more. And it would help calm down all the usual criticism of frequent releases etc etc

here's Joel's test of the 2 head to head that we did last week

he got v similar performance from both so as Tiger says it comes down to how much adjustability you want/need

there's also Neil's standalone review of M2

Would the Black Tie shafts that I've got in my SLDR fit the M2, the alleged less forgiving SLDR comments that have done the rounds on here really showed its ugly face on Hayling Island yesterday, something more forgiving could be what I need after all 🤔

Its clear that Taylormade have been releasing clubs with too much frequency for a while now. This M2 is no exception as all I can see is the M1 without the railings at a lower cost. Surely they would be better sticking with the aeroburner range and bringing the cost of the M1 range down if they believe they are helping golfers. Sorry rant over!

mmm, I'm guessing you are not in retail? Any golf manufacturer needs to have new shiny stuff out so it has shelf appeal. Most golfers will always want the latest 'tech' so having a model on sale for a long time is not good business. They mostly all do it now, for example Titliest have released some new Vokey wedges which I suspect are hardly any different to the old ones unless you are a tour player. But as they are Titliest no one seems to mention that. And Callaway have been worse than TM for a few years now for endless releases, especially of drivers.

Plus they are helping golfers as I picked up a brand new Aeroburner mini driver for less than 100 notes the other day. Where as if they would have stuck with that range it would have been a lot more expensive.;)

I don't know why people whine about TM (or any other manufacturer) and their release cycles. Either you buy and accept it will be replaced in a fairly short amount of time but you've still got the driver you want. Or, you wait 6 months and pay a lower figure as they've released a new model so you suddenly don't pay full whack for 'old' tech!!

Exactly. It's not as if the Aeroburner suddenly won't work now there's a new one out. If someone wants to pay 400 notes for a brand new M1 or a bit less for a M2 then knock yourself out, it's your money. But if you 'play the game' and can mange not to have the latest and greatest driver in your bag then it's happy days. Especially as the difference between subsequent models is negligible for the vast majority of amateurs.

You can call it whining but a lot of people had there fingers burnt by TM to the extent that they would probably not but TM again.
Furthermore, someone on here is asking for advice on the difference between two clubs. If one is dire ( and it's someone's opinion ) I want to know. It's not whining it's giving an honest opinion which could save me and others money.
Re the bit about waiting six months, yup that's what I did when I bought my ping G30. I have bought my last TM model.

Great post. SLDR can be picked up for £70 quid these days. M1 will be the same this time next year. All these new releases are great!

I disagree. When buying a car, people look for a quality piece of kit with reasonable residual value. Why should we not think of a £400 (ooof!) driver in the same way.

This is my only beef with this launch.
A lot of people have, in a way, been "suckered" into paying 400 notes for a club that might be no better for them than the 300 quid one just released a month or 2 later...you wonder how many M1s would have been sold if the M2 was released at the same time..
At least the other manufacturers announce the whole range at the same time ie 915 D2 and 3, Pings G. SF and LS, Callaways Pro and non-Pro...just poor form from TM in my opinion
