A few questions,

Where do I get brands like these from, American Golf don't seem to have them, or not many anyway.

Should I even be considering them, as in are they any good?

Reason I ask, I read a GM review about Lynx Predator Irons, and I have found as set on an American Site, Golfsmith.Com.

I'm think about importing them, they're reasonably priced Imo.

Thanks again

Adams worth keeping an eye on Direct Golf as they are oftening selling them off very cheap of late. Wishon you should be able to get from independent club builders or direct from Wishon itself, not sure Snake Eyes are still about and dont know for the others

Ebay? Pretty much every type of iron ever turns up there eventually.

fwiw, I would be very surprised if it would be worth importing a set of bog standard irons. There will be hundreds of similar ones available in the UK.

Exception would be if trying to source very high-end or rare kit (for example domestic Japanese or vintage).

Several of those you mentioned use independent club builders as their sales channel, but everything washes up on the bay in the end....

Adams should be easy enough to get hold of from any online store, most of the others are brands that have gone under and been purchased by goldsmiths so I don't know if you can only purchase them from there. The exception to that is Wishon which is more of a boutique brand so may need to be purchased directly from them I haven't tried.

As previously posted, Lynx should be easy to obtain - a once pretty good brand with full range that went down, was resurrected and is now scrapping away at the low end. Their 'Boom Boom' Driver fiasco did them little credit!

Adams is now part of TM and their products now mainly appear to be marketed at the 'Game Improvement' market. I've always been a fan of their leading edge approach and the use of quality, real shafts!

McGregor has also been through highs an lows! THE name when Nicklaus was in his prime! Been through several hands since - those of Greg Norman included - but apparently without much real direction. There have been a number of very fine sets of McGregor branded irons, though they never seemed to get the hang of Woods once they weren't made from wood! The brand is now owned by Golfsmith!

See my sig for my use of Adams and McGregor! The irons were actually made by Miura!

Tom Wishon has just announced his retirement from running the Wishon company - and sold out to Diamond Golf - his UK/Europe distributor. I'm puzzled why he chose them!

Snake Eyes was/is another Golfsmith brand that made very good kit - that was also available through fitters/component suppliers. Wishon was actually involved in some of their best designs! Their Blades and their Combo sets were particularly good - and well priced!

Hasn't golfsmith now filed for bankruptcy?

Hasn't golfsmith now filed for bankruptcy?

Not quite!

Chapter 11 - which they have 'filed for' - is 'protection from bankruptcy'!

The may come out of it. Part of the arrangement appears to be aimed at eliminating some 'bad lease arrangements' (read over-aggressive expansion and a falling demand!)! I suspect it will become a much smaller organisation once the accountants and lawyers have done their business!

You never know, but those brands could well start to appear in Direct Golf. Mike Ashley seems to like collecting 'vintage' brands!

The Lynx Headcovergate thread was the best forum thread ever...

Would sir like a totally legal warm headcover with that?
:D

BTW Golf Smith applied for chapter 11 around 3months ago and filed for bankruptcy a month back

best bet is to google 'golf club fitters'

I have Orka clubs and my uncle is currently updating his clubs to Wishon which he got from an independent club buider/fitter

I've hit the most recent woods from Lynx, practically hit themselves.

I would consider lynx for my next set, great clubs at a great price.

Also, The Lynx Predator set, is a full set. driver to Putter and everything in between, that comes to £300, imported.

Now I've seen a Pro Staff HDX set I like that rocks in at £239 from a UK retailer, Golf Online.

Reason I was asking mainly about the Lynx is because of the 4.5 Star review that Golf Monthly gave the Irons,
http://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/reviews/irons/lynx-predator-irons.

Is there going to be much difference between those and is it really worth paying an extra £75 to have them imported?

Thanks.

Pro Shop at Seaham GC stocks some Lynx clubs, worth giving them a ring.
