Had to take a trip to Luton Airport yesterday,to drop off my Daughter and 2 other chums who are now in Kavos ( yes I know)
And was surprised that there was a £2 charge, just to use the drop off zone.

There is no way to avoid it, nowhere you can pull over and dump your passengers, you are funnelled into coned lanes with no means of escape

They don't do it at heathrow or gatwick, so why Luton?
Smacks of blatant fleece the motorist again grrrrr

Then once you pay, you have to go on a long slow route right around the entire carpark, someone had a minor shunt and blocked the whole place up for 1/2 hour :(

Rant over

Charges at Stansted too.

So luton and stanstead, the home of the "cheap" flights find yet another way of charging you extra. Remember when Ryanair were considering charging you £1 to use the loo on the plane?! thats why if possible, i will pay a little extra for the flight and fly with BA or equiv national carrier from a proper airport. (LHR or LGW)

Serves you right for living doon sooth :ears:

Yes, but Luton is up north ;)...

Lad has complained of this charge recently... Occasionally he has to deliver or collect an engineer from Luton and paying this 'made up' fee gets up his nose... Even though he gets it back, eventually, from work...

And East Mids have just done this! Its a £1 charge an you don't have a clue its coming till you drop off then head for the exit and bang its barriers and £1 please.

Wow that's gone up. Last time I dropped off there it was £1. No charge at Liverpool or Manchester.

But the biggest rip off is Knock in West of Ireland. They charge you 10 euros for boarding at flight. I fly regular to the airport. 20 euro every time the wife and I leave for home

You can drop people at the mid term car park for free and they then catch a shuttle bus into the terminal. They basically did it to reduce the amount of traffic and people taking the mick waiting etc. £2 is a little steep and there are no allowances for disabled people or anything I think which is a little OTT, but I guess it's the airport operators prerogative to charge what they want.

This has given me an idea... I'll suggest to my management that each time a courier delivers/collects he gets fleeced a couple of quid for entering our car park... Nice little income stream...

I'm pretty sure this was nothing but a publicity stunt. Ryanair/Easyjet etc bust out these announcements (like a standing room only plane) every so often. All it does is reinforce in the minds of the public that they are doing everything possible to be as cheap as possible. You want to think of a cheap airline? Suddenly they pop into your head....and you know that it is as cheap as you can get anywhere!

Add to that Bournemouth, Exeter, Birmingham and Bristol. Southampton make you drop off in the short stay car park (for 'security reasons'), at the moment you get 10 mins free but I don't think it will be long until that changes:angry:

This one really annoys me. They call it a airport development fee; it has been under development for years.

They also charge €10 (i think) to get your hire car out of the airport

Same thing at Norwich, think that's now £5 pp. cant see how it has improved the airport but i'm sure the manager has a nice new car.............
