In the region of £30mill transfer fee (depending which need media you read) £30mill worlds most expensive teenager and quite possibly left back but value or not you saints fans?

Will he be a success like Rooney or flop like Anderson?

We are desperate it seems to add to the squad.
Other clubs know this and are inflating prices.
If it was me I would go for someone proven, however
It could end up being shrewd business, only time
Will tell.
He is fit, fast and strong so the potential there.

Utd have paid a premium for the potential IMO. Ive not seen anything to suggest he will be world class yet but he still has time on his side. I think he will be an improvement for Utd's team straight away though so I would say a win for them.

They had better hope he turns out to be a better punt that Phil Jones :D

I hope he turns out to be a great player and i hope the £30m tag doesn't hinder his progression.

He looks like he has all the ability to succeed though.

I hope the media and United fans give him more of a chance than they've given Fellaini.

30 million for a left back just seems stupid, I think Scholes has said that for that money you should be buying a proven goal scorer, and I agree. Really can't see how you get any sort of value for money, other than the fact that they have to pay that as some other team with an owner with unlimited funds would have bought him if they did not.

I really don't understand this. Surely a LB is as important as any other position.

£28m Fellaini.
£38m Mata.
£29m Herrera.
£34m Shaw.

£129m in less than a year

United fans; Tell us again how City are buying the league...

As I keep saying to my 8 year old grandson.....the keeper who makes a great save or the defender who makes a great tackle are the same value as the striker who scores a goal.

That'll be over 2 seasons which for the Premiership is about right it seems these days. I guess there will be more signings too so that will go up again. Time will tell but Shaw and Herrara are future buys - they could potentially be Utd players for another 6-10 years.

But in less than 12month. Just something I saw on twitter.

He is a good player - lot of money for a left back

Seems we have got Lallana for £25mil

Yes my initial thought was its crazy money but he is a decent player and has age on his side. I think he'll (potentially) be England LB for the next 3 or 4 tournemants too and almost certainly a big part of the future of a new Man Utd era.

Because left backs don't score many goals, sell many shirts, add many subscriptions to Man U TV or increase the awareness much in the money rich countries of the middle and far east. You are not being a bit naive and thinking just about the value on the pitch are you? ;)

Nope £30m is a pretty average signing for top teams now. Liverpool just spent £25 on Lallana, can't see either raking the money in for their new clubs. But if they perform on the pitch both will be good signings.
If you want to buy a top player who will sell shirts world wide & attract more sponsors it would be a bit naive to believe a £30m signing will do it.
Messi,Ronaldo,Meymar £80m+ signings ;)

30 million is an obscene amount of money for any footballer.

However, Luke Shaw is the one player that impressed me the most during his time on the pitch at the World Cup.

I thought it would be Barkley, but to be honest I was disappointed with him, although I'm sure he has the potential to be something special - only time will tell of course.
