Hi Guys

Shot my lowest ever round today but still came off feeling gutted.

I shot a 3 over par 74 but was standing on 17th tee level par gross before the wee men in the head took over

Went on to bogey the 17th and doubled the last , really thought i was gonna get my first ever level par round and started to think about it way too much.

I know its a great score for a 9 handicapper but i was hitting the ball so well and putting like a machine with only 28 putts so it was very disappointing to finish like that.

So im on a high and having a beer or two to celebrate but im gonna have one more than usual just to drown my sorrows a little at my mini collapse :p

At least its some end of season form and since i took my first ever lesson with a pro ive shot 77,76 and todays 74 so the lesson is obviously working so far.

What is it about this game that it can have you on a high and a low at the same time :D :D

Smange, what you have to take is the positives then have a look back at why you went bogey, double and think could you have done anything different, and learn from it,great round though, well played mate....

Thanks guys

I have taken loads of positives from it and dropped the shots through two bad iron shots, got both drives away ok but hit my approach into 17 a bit heavy and left it short of green then i think the adrenaline kicked in on 18 and i nailed an 8 iron through back of green and into bunker which i stupidly took 2 to get out of.

Dont get me wrong im over the moon with a 3 over par score but if i had been 3 over after 16 and finished that way i would have been ecstatic tonight but its the way i finished that makes it feel a bit flat.

Glad you see the positives in it as well.

Do you really think the bad 2 holes was due to you thinking about what you might score, or was it just a coincidence that your worst hole was the last one?

Definately down to the wee men in the head, the way i was hitting the ball all day i dont think i would have dropped 3 shots in 2 holes if i had already been 4 or 5 over but we will never know.

I know i can do it now though so looking forward to the next round and a chance to put todays bad finish to bed.

Roll on Thursday!!

Did you stop enjoying ur round over the last 2 holes. You say you didn't think you could of droped shots today. Sounds to me as if you stoped enjoying the round and you started thinking........

Well done g8 round!!!

Thanks Iain

I just got ahead of myself I think, was looking forward to walking off 18 after shooting level par and put even more pressure on myself.

As a low man yourself you must have shot a lot of level par and better rounds so how do you keep the demons away and how do you close out a real good round?

Is it a case of doing it the first time then its no big deal?

Here's a thing... picture the scene...

You par the 17th and are on in regulation at the 18th... you have a 10 footer for birdie which you miss and go home having shot level par - how would you feel?

I'll tell you.... gutted!

In this game we take great pride in being hard to please, knowing you played well and left shots out there is a brilliant feeling because you know you can improve, one day,... perhaps.

Enjoy the fact that you've set a new benchmark for yourself, well played!

Does it depend whether the previous 17 holes were all pars or a mixture of birdies, pars and bogeys? :D

JustOne- if i had walked off with a level par round i can honestly say i would be ecstatic, regardless of how many shots i think i may have left out there. A level par round is my goal and if and when i do it i will be one happy golfer.

Region3- After 16 i had 10 pars, 3 birdies and 3 bogeys so 2 pars to finish would have capped probably as good a round as i could expect

As they say, the score card doesn't paint pictures.

You were 3 over. Great round - enjoy :)

You now know for sure that you have the game there, it's just getting it there for 18 holes. Sounds like you had a great short game. What was it that let you down on the last couple of holes (apart from the demons)?

Still a great round of golf, it makes no difference to the score if you double bogey the last or the first, only to how you feel about the round. A great positive to take is that you now know you can score Par and better when you're on your game. Keep playing as you are and the scores will come. :)

I hope you achieve your goal and feel the way you describe.

Down to 2 poor approach shots, 1 hit heavy and leaving me 20 yards short and the other airmailing the green to the bunker at the back.

I know its a good score with some good golf played but just feel disappointed at how i finished and not the actual score, a case of so near but so far.

Hopefully i can take it on from here and one day close out a level par round ;)

Great shooting Smadge. I was "there" myself a few weeks back with a PB 2 over, so I know how you feel.

I too left a couple of shots out there, and I don't think that's any bad thing. To me it just means that even though you have just knocked it round in your best ever score, there is still room to improve.

It gives you real confidence that you can go lower.

Smange, imagine if you had of dropped those 3 shots on the 1st 2 holes. and finished 3 over for the 18 holes, How would you feel then?
I shot 1 under yesterday, I boggied the 1st hole, so I was 2 under for the other 17holes. I had 2 birdies 1 bogie and the rest par's, the putts wouldn't drop yesterday. I hit 15 greens in reglaition. On other days the putter might work but the 15 greens in reg, will become 10. Thats why we love/hate this game at times.

Enjoy the feeling. We all know the game will come back and bite. Good to see the lesson is working for you. I personally don't think the bad shot (heavy) at 17 was necessarily anything other than a bad execution. In the summer you might have got away with the contact and it might have wandered on. You may be right about the long approach being down to adrenalin but there wasn't an excuse for leaving it in the bunker.

Enjoy the feeling. You know what it feels like now and so when you're in the same position you can feel more confident and close the round out. Great shooting
